Rajasthan Royals have assured that they are looking to move on from their former captain Sanju Samson and are choosing players from the franchise as their next captain for the upcoming IPL season.
Rajasthan Royals have confirmed that Sanju Samson has requested to opt out, and hence, the Royals have decided to do the same for the former captain. As a result, they will have to appoint a new captain in place of Samson.
Due to Sanju Samson’s limited captaincy due to injuries, the Royals lost many close games and could not advance to the top 4 positions in the IPL points table. Furthermore, they remained at the bottom of the points table.
Yashasvi Jaiswal can be the next captain of Rajasthan Royals
Last time, when Sanju Samson was unavailable during some games, young all-rounder Riyan Parag stepped up from the Royals setup. Parag has been a standout performer for the Royals in the 2024 season, where he was the team’s highest scorer with the bat after being promoted up the batting order.
On the other hand, experienced Indian left-handed batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has emerged as a key option to be replaced as their new captain. Jaiswal is not a very experienced campaigner, yet he has shown a desire to grow as a leader in his career.
In recent claims, Rohit Juglan has reportedly stated that Rajasthan Royals youngster Jaiswal can be seen in such a role for his team. On Yashasvi’s captaincy prospects, Juglan said, “You should not be surprised if you see him leading the team.”
Why might Yashasvi Jaiswal be picked over Riyan Parag for RR captaincy?
Although Riyan Parag led Rajasthan Royals on several occasions in the previous edition of the IPL, he has also been seen in a prominent captaincy role for his home team, Assam. He has led them consistently and almost single-handedly with both bat and ball.
Performing with the bat, Parag has scored many runs across all formats and has been very effective with the ball as well. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal is a player with immense international potential and even more experience than Parag.
Additionally, Jaiswal can be cited over Parag in the IPL, as he has been more consistent in the IPL, as well as being RR’s highest run-scorer last season. Parag failed to convince everyone with his performance, especially with the bat.
Sanju Samson’s trade deal with Delhi Capitals stuck midway
Indian wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson’s trade deal between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals has once again been broken midway. Samson will be traded to the Capitals and the Royals have made a push for an uncapped player in Tristan Stubbs.
Protea is expected to be linked with Vipraj Nigam, Abhishek Porel or Sameer Rizvi as they are cited as the three uncapped players in the Capitals side who are in demand ahead of the mini-auction.
