A dramatic scene unfolded at the MCA Stadium in Pune during the three-day practice match between Maharashtra and Mumbai on Tuesday, October 7. The heated moment between Maharashtra’s star opener Prithvi Shaw and Mumbai’s young talent Musheer Khan surprised everyone.

Prithvi Shaw’s anger against Musheer Khan gives rise to controversy
In the 74th over, Prithvi Shaw, while trying to hit another big shot, was caught at square leg by Irfan Umair off the ball of Musheer Khan. As the former Mumbai batsman started to walk back, Musheer reportedly made a comment which did not go down well with the Maharashtra batsman.

Musheer sledged Prithvi Shaw with a “thank you” comment, and he turned around angrily, swinging his bat in frustration towards the Mumbai bowler. Players and umpires rushed to defuse the tension and one of the on-field umpires was seen taking Shaw away from the Mumbai players to prevent the situation from escalating at the MCA Stadium.
This incident immediately went viral. Now both Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) have taken this matter seriously. Officials from both state associations have launched an investigation into the incident to determine what exactly led to the heated situation and whether disciplinary action is required.

Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw has reportedly apologized to Musheer Khan for his actions. As reported by journalists from Mumbai Mirror and Times of India, Shaw realized his mistake and apologized to Musheer on Thursday, October 9, following their altercation in Pune.

However, Mumbai Cricket Association and Maharashtra Cricket Association have not yet given any statement on this episode. Notably, Musheer and Shaw were once Mumbai teammates, and his brother, Sarfaraz Khan, shares a good relationship with India’s batsman.
Prithvi Shaw named in Maharashtra squad for Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season
Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw has been named in the Maharashtra squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season after ending his long stint with Mumbai earlier this year. Shaw decided to move on from Mumbai after being left out of the team last season.
The transfer to Maharashtra gives him a fresh start and a chance to rebuild his domestic career. Shaw, known for his aggressive batting style and natural stroke play, is already a big name in the domestic arena.
