Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday praised Sanju Samson, highlighting his match-winning batting performance during India’s victorious campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Samson’s World Cup heroics have turned him into a national hero over the past few months. Due to his national recognition, even the Indian Prime Minister has stepped forward to cite him as an example to inspire the public.
Samson is currently part of the Chennai Super Kings camp in the ongoing IPL and will play his first match against last season’s runners-up Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Samson and highlighted the batsman’s match-winning impact during the Men in Blue’s victorious campaign at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Prime Minister addressed Keralam activists said that Samson’s performance under pressure is actually a lesson for the people to learn to maintain concentration and restraint.
Modi said, “Today the cricket season is going on and it is also a lesson for the people of Kerala. As we often see in the performance of Sanju Samson, we saw Sanju Samson in the World Cup.”
Indian PM highlights Samson’s ability, which makes him a ‘true player’
The Indian Prime Minister noted that Samson has the unique ability to develop into a true character on the field. He also mentioned that the batsman has shown the hallmarks of a true player by stepping up for India when it mattered most.
“As the tournament got tougher, the knockout stage came, and his performance suddenly reached its peak. From start to finish, his focus, his confidence and his intensity kept increasing. That’s the mark of a true player,” he stressed on Samson’s rise in high-stakes moments.
The Prime Minister of India further highlighted that Sanju Samson has the ability to perform well when it matters most for India. He said, “When the team needed him the most, he gave his best performance. This is the mark of a true player.”
Long list of Sanju Samson’s T20 World Cup records
Samson made many big records with his brilliant innings in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The wicketkeeper batsman was included in the Indian team, and he managed to score 321 runs in just 5 matches.
He broke the record for most runs scored by an Indian batsman in a single edition of the competition. Samson also scored a record high average of over 80 in the ICC T20 World Cup. He also holds the record for most sixes in a single edition of the T20 World Cup with 24 sixes.
With three half-centuries in the ICC T20 World Cup, he joined the elite list of cricketers to score consecutive half-centuries in the competition. After a modest start, he turned the tables with an unbeaten 97 against the West Indies and then consecutive innings of 89 in the knockout stages of the tournament.
