The ongoing match between Scorchers and Heat also saw a new BBL record being created. In fact, Perth Scorchers hit 18 sixes at the Gabba, which is the most number of sixes in an innings in BBL history.

The previous best was 17 sixes, and that too was made by the Scorchers against the Melbourne Stars in the 2022-23 season.

Finn Allen and Cooper Connolly lead run-fest at Gabba

Meanwhile, Brisbane Heat got early success when Xavier Bartlett dismissed Mitchell Marsh for just three runs off 9 balls in the second over. After Marsh’s wicket, Finn Allen and Cooper Connolly came in behind Bartlett in the fourth over, hitting two sixes and taking the score to 40/1.

Allen became even more aggressive in the seventh over and hit three skyscraper sixes on Matthew Kuhnman. The turning point of the innings came in the ninth over when Colin Munro dismissed Allen for 45 runs. That one mistake completely changed the game at the Gabba.

Brisbane Heat had to bear the brunt of this as Allen and Connolly made a 100-run partnership in just 50 balls. Connolly attacked fearlessly, scoring a brilliant 77 off 37 balls with six fours and as many sixes, before he was out after being slogged to long-off.

On the other hand, Allen’s stormy innings ended in the 15th over when he mistimed the ball to cover off Shaheen Afridi as he walked back after scoring a brilliant 79 off just 38 balls. He also entertained the Gabba crowd with three fours and eight sixes.

After his dismissal, Nick Hobson (26) and Laurie Evans (16*) added quick runs in the end, helping the Scorchers post a massive score of 257/6 on the board in 20 overs against the Heat. Xavier Bartlett was the best bowler for the host team, taking two wickets for 44 runs in four overs.

Finn Allen begins demolition of Brisbane Heat attack in BBL 2025-26 clash

During the innings break, Finn Allen said, “It felt good. I think it was tough at the top, but the way Cooper got out really changed the momentum for us, and we just had to keep it going. I think batting first, we wanted to put a competitive total on the board.

I think they were probably better than us in the first few overs. But Cooper has been hitting the ball very well lately; He just came out and did what Cooper does. I thought he would continue to build on that.
