Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has made an absurd suggestion to the PCB, demanding that they impose financial penalties on players who fail to perform and use the money received from them to reward high-scoring opener Sahibzada Farhan.
Pakistan not only failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 but also played its worst game in the competition. Barring one or two players, the batting department looked to be a complete mess, especially against a strong opponent.
Following his exit, the PCB as well as head coach Mike Hesson was criticized for poor selection in matches. Fans have also called for the sacking of captain Salman Ali Aga and ignoring players like Babar Azam and Mohammad Nawaz who failed to make a significant impact.
Rashid Latif took a sharp dig at Pakistan’s batsmen
Pakistan’s batsmen could not get going in most of the games. The top order would have been in complete disarray had it not been for Sahibzada Farhan, who single-handedly took the almost dead team forward. Saim Ayub and Salman Ali Aga failed to reach double figures on most occasions.
After this comes Babar Azam, whose form is not worth saying anything about him. Azam has not only failed to score runs, but he has also disappointed the fans by playing too many balls and then getting out without converting it into a big innings.
Former Pakistan captain Latif advised the PCB to impose a financial cut on players who failed to perform and use that money as a resource to reward Sahibzada Farhan for scoring 40% of Pakistan’s runs in the tournament.
Rashid Latif’s ridiculous proposal, “Deduct the money from the fees of the players who did not perform and give that money to Sahibzada Farhan. He scored his own quota of runs, about 400 runs, which was about 40% of Pakistan’s total. He did the job single-handedly.”
Rashid Latif said, “Take the fines from the players who did not perform and give that money to Sahibzada Farhan. He scored his own quota of runs, about 400 runs, which was about 40% of Pakistan’s total. He did the job all by himself.” ??? pic.twitter.com/2gtZJkQkIY

PCB has imposed financial fine on Pakistan cricketers
The PCB has already committed the strangest incident in the history of an ICC tournament. Since Pakistan failed to qualify for the semi-finals for the fourth consecutive time in an ICC event in the last 4 years, this financial penalty has been imposed.
Reportedly, the fine, which is around PKR 50 lakh, has been imposed on every player who was part of the team traveling to Sri Lanka. This penalty was issued after India’s defeat with the condition that it would be voided if they could make it to the semi-finals.
Despite desperate efforts, Pakistan failed to make it to the semi-finals as their first Super-8 game against New Zealand was washed out due to rain, they lost the next game to England, and then, despite winning the last game, the run difference was not enough to qualify.
PCB may make major changes in the team
Pakistani experts are continuously demanding changes within the team and now they have issued an ultimatum to the PCB selectors. He has now opined that ‘enough is enough’ and that he has enough opportunities for players who have been performing poorly for a long time. They should be removed now.
These claims were indirectly made about experienced cricketer Babar Azam, whose form remains a matter of concern. Apart from this, players like Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz may be out due to not being able to take their team to the semi-finals.
