With the league starting from March 26, the board has warned that players who leave their contracts to join an IPL franchise may face legal consequences.
The tussle between PSL and IPL has intensified
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi addressed the issue publicly, making it clear that the board is no longer willing to tolerate such exits. The concern arises from the growing trend where players sign PSL deals but later switch to IPL teams when replacement opportunities arise.
“We will take action against those players as per the rules. This was the case last year also and it will be the same this time too.” Naqvi said.
Overlap in schedule – PSL starts from March 26 IPL on 28th March – The situation has been made more complicated. With both leagues running almost simultaneously, players are often forced to choose, and in many cases, the financial pull and visibility of the IPL has proven hard to resist.
This has left PSL franchises scrambling to find last-minute replacements, disrupting team composition and preparation days before the tournament begins.
High-profile withdrawals have left PSL franchises in trouble

Shanaka, contracted by Lahore Qalandars, decided to join Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL as a replacement for an injured player. Meanwhile, Muzarabani left Islamabad United after being picked by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), where he was brought in as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman.
Their decisions highlight a wider pattern – players initially committing to the PSL after going unsold or not getting ideal deals elsewhere, but quickly switching when IPL opportunities open up due to injuries. With high salaries and global exposure offered by IPL franchises, it becomes difficult to ignore this temptation.
Several other overseas players, including Gudakesh Moti, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Otneil Baartman and Spencer Johnson, have also withdrawn, although most have cited personal reasons. However, the timing of these withdrawals has raised eyebrows at the PCB.
The board’s disappointment is nothing new. A similar situation played out last year when South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch left his PSL contract to join Mumbai Indians as a replacement player. That incident has now become a reference point for the PCB as it prepares to take strict action.
Naqvi confirmed that the board is already evaluating legal options and may take action against two to three players in the coming days. Its aim is not just to address the current situation but also to send a strong message for the future.
For the PCB, it is about protecting the integrity of the league and ensuring contracts are respected. However, for players, it is a balancing act between professional commitments and career opportunities.
