Pat Cummins wary of Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s threat before IPL eliminator, forced to prepare Plan B and C

The fear of 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi is palpable inside the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) camp ahead of the high-voltage IPL 2026 eliminator against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in New Chandigarh on Wednesday (May 27).

After being completely destroyed by the teenager last month, now Sunrisers Hyderabad is preparing a special plan to stop him in the eliminator of IPL 2026.

Before this match, SRH captain Pat Cummins admitted that Suryavanshi has become one of those dangerous batsmen who can single-handedly change the match in a few overs and he has prepared many plans for him.

Sunrisers Hyderabad still reeling from Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s brutal Jaipur massacre?

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been one of the biggest revelations of the ongoing IPL 2026. At the age of 15, the left-handed batsman has stunned the cricket world with his fearless hitting against some of the best bowlers of the tournament. He has scored 568 runs this season at an incredible strike rate of over 230 and is currently fighting for the Orange Cap.

An innings from the RR opener stunned Sunrisers Hyderabad in Jaipur. During that match on 25 April, Vaibhav completely demolished SRH’s bowling attack and scored a brutal century in just 36 balls; This is one of the fastest centuries in IPL history.

Interestingly, SRH had earlier managed to bowl him out for a duck in Hyderabad when young fast bowler Prafulla Hinge had dismissed him in the very first over. But when the two teams met again in Jaipur, Suryavanshi came back with full aggression and targeted the same bowling attack from the very first ball.

The youngster hit four sixes in a single over off the same bowler, putting SRH under direct pressure. After getting a lease of life when he was on 32, the Bihar player scored a half-century in 15 balls and then went on to score a brilliant century in 36 balls, leaving the SRH camp completely helpless. Fortunately, SRH won both the matches against RR in the group stage in Hyderabad and Jaipur.

Pat Cummins admits SRH need backup plan for Vaibhav Suryavanshi in IPL 2026 eliminator

Now ahead of the eliminator, Pat Cummins has openly admitted that SRH need backup plans to control Vaibhav Suryavanshi as players like him can snatch matches within minutes.

The Australian skipper also hinted that Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have prepared a Plan B and C for the Rajasthan Royals sensation for the big match in New Chandigarh on Wednesday.

Pat Cummins said in the pre-match press conference: “As a bowler, it’s always a balance, understanding what you do well and how you are going to bowl according to your strengths. But when every lineup has maybe one or two players who can take the game away from the opposition, you spend a little more time working on Plan B or Plan C. So, yes, we will plan for that.”

Pat Cummins says SRH have learned valuable lessons from Jaipur massacre

However, Australia’s premier pace bowler feels that SRH bowled really well against Vaibhav Suryavanshi during the Jaipur game, so he is confident that his attack should use his learnings to keep the young gun under control in the knockout encounter.

“Even though he scored a century against us last time, I thought at times we bowled really well to him and kept him calm. At other times, he got away from us. So, we will learn from that,” Cummins said.
