In match number 56 between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Defending the score of 169 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Shubman Gill’s team won by 82 runs. It was a one-sided game as they finished on top of the points table with 16 points and almost secured a place in the playoffs.
The win made it five consecutive wins for Shubman Gill and his boys, as they started building momentum right from the middle of the season, and have never looked back so far. SRH captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to field first, as both the teams went into the game with unchanged playing elevens.
Sai Sudarshan saved GT
Batting first, Titans captain Gill was out early on the score of 5 runs. Sai Sudarshan once again stepped up for the team and scored 61 off 44 balls and stitched a small partnership between Nishant Sindhu, who scored 22, and then Washington Sundar, who played a brilliant inning of 50, as the Titans finished at 168/5.
Jason Holder scored 11* and Rahul Tewatia scored 4 runs. Prafulla Hinge and Saqib Hussain took two wickets each and Pat Cummins bowled brilliantly, taking one wicket for just 20 runs in his four-over spell.
Kagiso Rabada was on fire for the Titans
Pat Cummins’ team had the worst start while chasing the target, they lost Travis Head for a duck in the very first over and Mohammed Siraj provided the breakthrough. Wickets kept falling and Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan were soon out.
None of the SRH batsmen had an answer to Gujarat Titans’ bowling discipline, with Kagiso Rabada taking three wickets inside the power play, pushing the Orange Army into deep waters. Salil Arora and Heinrich Klaasen tried to build a partnership but were out for 16 and 14 runs respectively.
When you hit back of the length it seemed like the wicket was difficult – Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins was the leading scorer with 19 runs as Titans bowled out Sunrisers for 86 runs. Keeping the qualifications in mind, this defeat will definitely be heavy.
After the defeat, Pat Cummins said, “(What could they have done differently) I thought they (the GT fast bowlers) bowled really well. We were quite happy when we got going. It was a difficult wicket, they bowled well. Try to find ways to get through that spell. It looked like a difficult wicket when you hit behind that length. Maybe we could have kept our lengths a bit longer.”
“But this is as good a T20 bowling (performance) as you can see from them. Our batting has been brilliant, so not too much can be read into it. People are performing really well. That happens in T20 cricket. We (now) go to venues we know well, so we take confidence from that.”
“We’ve won five or six (of our last 7-8) and that brings a little relief (in the playoff race), so we’ve got to get back to the wins that got us through and put it behind us quickly.”
