The Australia national cricket team could get a huge boost for the second Test of the ongoing Ashes 2025-26 series against England at the Gabba in Brisbane, as captain Pat Cummins has provided a major update on his recovery and return chances.
Pat Cummins missed the first Test in Perth with a lower back injury and his participation in the second Test, starting at the Gabba on December 4, was in serious doubt. Apart from Cummins, Josh Hazlewood also missed the opening match of the Ashes series against England due to a hamstring injury.

According to the report of Code Sports, Hazlewood will not be able to play in the second Test due to hamstring injury. And this could be a big blow for the host team in the ongoing Ashes 2025-26 series. However, Cummins has shared a positive update on his recovery from a back problem.

The Australian fast bowler was seen bowling in practice during the first Ashes Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Cummins’ sessions have been carefully managed with a mix of long spells and light work, to test his fitness and boost confidence ahead of the crucial GABA Test.
Well, the Australian captain’s recovery is on track and Pat Cummins is optimistic about his chances of returning for the second Ashes Test in Brisbane. Cummins also revealed that he completed several bowling sessions without any problems and his fitness is improving really well.

Kayo Sports quoted Pat Cummins as saying, “It’s feeling good. I had some good sessions in Perth this week, so I had a big day where I bowled about 10 overs, then had a few days quiet, and then went again. It’s on track and progressing very well.”
“I’ve got half a chance for the next game. I’ll have a few more balls, and then the way it’s going it may be about two weeks until the next game. I’m quite optimistic, and it’s probably better than it was a few weeks ago,” the Australian captain said.

Chasing 205, Australia achieved the target in amazing fashion on a ground where big targets usually collapse. With Usman Khawaja injured, Travis Head opened and immediately dominated the English bowlers, hitting powerful shots and taking complete control.
Jake Weatherald started well, but lost ground early to Braydon Carse, leaving Head to take over. Head scored a record-breaking century, while Marnus Labuschagne ably supported him at the other end with a stylish half-century as the hosts stunned England in the Ashes opener on November 22.
