Australia’s upcoming ash makes Dark Cloud Loom on Australia’s plans, with Captain Pat Cummins facing the race against time to fit the blockbuster five -match Test series against England. Pat Cummins recently scanned a regular scan on his back, which has now raised serious concerns about his availability for the upcoming Ashes 2025-26.
Cummins, who have been out of action since July, were already resting from the T20 series against New Zealand to prepare as the Ashes. But the Telegraph report suggested that the scan has disclosed more than expected, the management has been forced to reconsider how Cums’ charge will be handled.
Pat Cummins’ fitness suspected Rock Australia’s ashes preparation
Australia and England will play a five -match Test series in only 48 days, so it would be really challenging to balance the fitness of the skipper as they will also lead the speed attack. However, he is not currently sure to participate in the start of the Ashes 2025–26 series.

The telegraph report wrote, “The sources are privately accepted the problem, worse than expected, and it is a doubt for the start of the Ashes series. Even if fit, its charge will require management in the five-match series starting in Perth on November 21.”
Steve Smith to lead Australia if Pat Cummins is rejected
If Pat Cummins is excluded from the beginning, Steve Smith will once again lead the kangaroo against his hardcore rivals England in the much awaited test chain. But Cummins’ absence puts heavy pressure on Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazelwood to lead a rapid coalition attack.
Scott Bolland will be placed as a reserve pacer, while Cameron Green may have to share more load. Green is still smoothing things for himself after back surgery last year, and he is not yet achieving red-ball match fitness.
Meanwhile, Australia has already been stopped from injuries to Lance Morris and Spencer Johnson, while Jhi Richardson will not be available in the beginning of the season.

Back Trouble returns to hunt Pat Cummins
These failures leave Australian selectors with a narrow pool at the worst time, but their biggest concern is Cummins. The fast bowler already has a history of back injuries, which once kept out of test cricket for nearly six years after its start in 2011.
But after the return, Cummins proved himself as one of the most deadly fast bowlers of the modern era, with a brilliant average of 309 Test wickets 22, as well as one of the best captains, who have already won both the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup for Australia.
Cummins’ potential absence for part of the Ashes series will not only be a strategic blow for the hosts, but it will lead to the England cricket team led by Ben Stokes. Without their leadership and unmatched stability, Australia can struggle in a test chain at home.
In particular, Australia won ashes at home in 2021–22 and retained the ash in England in 2023 under the captaincy of Cummins. He has 91 wickets in 19 Ashes Tests named so far.
