Parthiv Patel warns Vaibhav Suryavanshi about England’s pace attack strategy against him

Former Team India keeper-batsman Parthiv Patel spotted a deliberate effort against Vaibhav Suryavanshi ahead of the fourth T20I between India and England in Bristol.

Patel warned that from now on Vaibhav will have to face fast bouncers from the opposing fast bowlers.

Jofra Archer’s bouncer baffles Vaibhav Suryavanshi

In the last match of the ongoing 5-match T20I series in England, Jofra Archer dismissed left-handed batsman Vaibhav with a sharp bouncer on his leg stump. Vaibhav tried to play a pull but the ball went behind the stumps to keeper Jos Buttler.

In the last match, England’s fast bowlers Josh Tongue and Archer had made a proper game plan against Vaibhav Suryavanshi. A match earlier in the series, when Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his Team India debut, he bowled a ball from Archer, which did not have much bounce but was on the leg stump, down the leg side for six runs.

Parthiv Patel gave strict warning to Vaibhav Suryavanshi

In the next match, Jofra Archer continued to clock over 140 kmph and kept the ball short of the length to surprise the 15-year-old batsman. Parthiv Patel predicted that the bowlers would follow the same pattern in Bristol as well.

“Not just Jofra Archer, I think anyone who has watched the IPL will not be surprised that Vaibhav Suryavanshi was deliberately planned to bowl the short ball. It was not just the wicket ball; the ball before that was also short. In the first game, the ball he hit the six on might not have bounced as much, but the line was the same,” Parthiv told Jio Hotstar.

He further added, “As Vaibhav Suryavanshi progresses in his international career, he will continue to face this type of bowling, with balls that are short and above 145 km/h. So, the question will definitely be how he copes with the short-pitched bowling, as every bowler will want to target him there.”

Parthiv Patel urges Indian batsmen to play wisely

Ahead of the India vs England 4th T20 match, the former Team India opener urged the Indian batsmen to play with extra caution with proper game awareness. In the last match, in response to England’s 201 runs, Team India was bundled out for just 76 runs.

While the team was under pressure, losing several wickets early in the chase, there was a lack of wisdom in the short selection. Parthiv Patel asked the batsmen to keep their eyes on the ball before thinking about rotating the strike at a good pace.

“I would like to see a better understanding of the game and a bit more awareness of the game from the Indian batsmen at Bristol. Yes, there are 200 runs on the board, but these are all experienced T20 batsmen and in this format, you have a bit more time than you think.” He said.

He further added, “You can take an over or two to set your sights. The conditions are different, the wickets are not as flat, and you have to adjust to the dimensions of the ground and the pace of the wicket. So, it is very important to give yourself some time.”
