The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to take a final decision on Pakistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2026 later today. According to reports, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is scheduled to meet Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, after which the government can take a final decision on the participation.

The ICC rejected Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) request to shift Bangladesh’s matches out of India. Following that decision, Bangladesh was eliminated from the upcoming tournament. Due to that development, speculations about Pakistan boycotting the global tournament have also increased.

PCB has prepared Plan B before T20 World Cup 2026

Mohsin Naqvi has already met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on January 26. The board is still yet to unveil Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 jersey, which was earlier delayed due to unavoidable reasons.

At the same time, PCB has prepared a backup option. If Pakistan decides not to participate in the World Cup, a four-team domestic tournament will be held in Lahore.

The event will feature players from the Pakistan senior team, Pakistan Shaheens and the Under-19 setup, who will be divided into four teams to ensure competitive cricket at home.

Pakistan’s participation in T20 World Cup 2026 uncertain

Bangladesh were replaced by Scotland after refusing to travel to India amid rising tensions. In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board threatened to abandon the tournament and even canceled the planned launch of Pakistan’s World Cup jersey, saying that a final decision had not been taken.

In a statement regarding the series against Australia, the board mentioned that one of their fast bowlers was being released as he was not a part of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad. The post was later removed, but it strongly hinted at Pakistan’s plans.

Reports suggest that Pakistan will visit Sri Lanka on February 2. They are also set to play a practice match against Ireland at the Sinhalese Sports Club two days later. The Salman Ali Aga-led team will play all its matches, including the knockouts, in Sri Lanka.
