The India-Pakistan rivalry is never short of high-octane drama, and the ongoing Super Six clash at the ICC U19 World Cup 2026 in Bulawayo has added another moment to it. Pakistan bowler Mohammad Syam lost his temper after hitting a six and made a strong throw at Indian batsman Vihaan Malhotra.

India suffered a big blow early in their innings after losing the toss in Bulawayo on Sunday, 1 February. Mohammad Sayyam put pressure on the batting team by striking twice in the eighth over. Vaibhav Suryavanshi was out for 30 and after just two balls, Ayush Mhatre was out for a duck.

Both wickets fell in the same over, leaving India’s score at 47 runs for two wickets. Things got worse in the very next over as India lost another wicket, leaving the score at 47 for three.

Mohammad Sayyam lost his temper, made aggressive throw at Vedant Trivedi

During India’s innings, on the third ball of the 12th over, Vedant Trivedi took full advantage of the free hit by pulling a short ball from Mohammad Sayyam over deep midwicket for six runs.

However, Syam responded with a good length delivery on the very next ball, hitting the stumps. Trivedi remained calm, defended it straight and stayed safely inside his crease without attempting any runs.

Sayyam showed obvious frustration. After collecting the ball in his follow-through, he angrily threw it at the batting-end stumps. The throw hit the stumps but had no effect, as Trivedi was never in danger of being run out, making the act an unnecessary display of aggression.

India-Pakistan U19 captains did not shake hands again in the World Cup

The India-Pakistan U19 World Cup clash again drew attention to the toss as both captains avoided the customary handshake. India captain Ayush Mhatre and Pakistan captain Farhan Yousuf completed the toss formalities without any greetings.

The trend started during the 2025 Asia Cup, when India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav refused to shake hands with his Pakistani counterpart amid rising political tensions. This continued in the Women’s World Cup 2025, Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 and U19 Asia Cup.

In the ongoing match, Pakistan Under-19 won the toss and elected to bowl first in the crucial Super Six Group 2 match. As the final group-stage game, there is a lot at stake in the contest, with both India and Pakistan needing a win to seal a place in the semi-finals.

One place higher in the semi-finals as India and Pakistan face each other.

The semi-final picture is close to being formed, with Australia and Afghanistan having already qualified from Super Six Group 1. England have secured their place in Group 2, leaving one semi-final spot still open.

That final spot will be decided between India and Pakistan. India are currently second in the group with three wins from three matches and a net run rate of +3.337. Pakistan are in third place with two wins from three matches and a net run rate of +1.484.

If Pakistan beats India then both the teams will have six points. However, Pakistan will still need to win by a big margin to overcome India’s superior net run rate. For Ayush Mhatre-led India, only a win will confirm qualification. India is also unbeaten in the tournament so far.
