Pakistan cricket team is in deep trouble due to defeat against Bangladesh, just days after being out of T20 World Cup 2026. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced different captains for different formats, but the result remained unchanged.
PCB has made Shaheen Afridi the captain of the ODI team against Bangladesh. Salman Ali Aga was the captain in T20 World Cup 2026. In both competitions, Pakistan were eliminated from claiming the trophy.
Should Shaheen Afridi be removed from captaincy?
Did Shaheen Afridi make mistakes as captain against Bangladesh? This question was asked in Dhaka after 3third Men’s Pakistan cricket team head coach Mike Hesson of the three-match ODI series. Hesson supported Afridi in his response.
The Mohsin Naqvi-led cricket board selected a new team with several emerging, uncapped cricketers to face Bangladesh. The board tried to create a balanced team with a mix of young and experienced players. On paper, the plan may have seemed attractive, but the reality proved difficult for the team to handle. With a new-look team, the Pakistan cricket team once again had to face reality.
Pakistan’s head coach issued a big statement on Shaheen Afridi
Mike Hesson said that Shaheen Afridi did a good job as the leader of an army which was filled with many untapped talents. The coach claimed that Afridi got very limited time to know his team members. Within a short period of time, Afridi tried to handle the situation in a tactful and strategic manner.
“I think he’s done really well. You know, with the youth, like I said, it’s not easy. You’re getting to know some of these players a little bit, but he was always positive within the group. When we were down a little bit, he brought the group back up.”
Q: Considering Shaheen as a captain?

The head coach of the Pakistan cricket team said about Shaheen Afridi, “I thought he was tactically smart, and his performance with the ball was also good, especially from a length perspective. He had a good series.”
After missing the opportunity to register a win in an overseas series, Afridi himself said that the young stars fought till the last minute of the match and he was proud of what the new players did.
Afridi praised the efforts of young players against Bangladesh
Shaheen Afridi said after the third and final match of the ODI series against Bangladesh, “I think the early wickets cost us a bit, but I’m really proud of the team. They fight till the end, and I think that’s what we need for the youngsters, and they fight till the last ball.”
In the match, Bangladesh scored 290 runs thanks to the century of Tanjid Hasan Tamim. For Pakistan, Salman Ali Aga responded with his century in the match, which was insufficient to win the match, which was necessary for both teams to win the series even.
