Amidst the Asia Cup 2025 Trophy controversies, former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has called upon India to face suspension from the International Cricket Council (ICC) events. The play came out after the Indian cricket team refused to accept Mohsin Naqvi’s trophy and awards.
Mohsin Naqvi is currently serving as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), along with the posts of internal minister in the current Pakistan government. The ACC president has also made anti-India statements during the Asia Cup 2025 several times.
Rashid Latif Asia Cup calls for India’s suspension after 2025 trophy controversy
Given the border-limit and political tension between India and Pakistan, Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian cricket team has decided not to receive the winner medal from the Asia and Naqvi, despite being the head of Asia, which disrupts the presentation ceremony.

However, individual players were given awards, but the Indian team deliberately avoided accepting the ACC chief, and intensified more stress. According to media reports, he was also not ready to share podium with the PCB president.
Well, India requested another ACC officer or Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) to complete the ceremony, but Pakistan ministers remained stubborn and took the trophy and medals to their hotel. Nevertheless, Naqvi has not given him India, and the BCCI is trying to do everything to bring back the silver pot.
Rashid Latif called India’s move a ‘ugly day for cricket’
Meanwhile, Rashid Latif slammed India to refuse to receive the award from the ACC President, called it a serious violation of cricket etiquette and “ugly day” for cricket. He also argued that in most sports, such disregard would cause immediate disciplinary action.
Rashid Latif posted, “The Indian cricket team is a good candidate for suspension from the ICC, who refused to gather the #Asiacup2025 trophy and awards from the ACC president. In any other sport, it would have been an open and closed case.”
Former Pakistan captain claims that ICC will remain silent
But Latif claimed that the ICC Asia Cup Trophy would remain silent in controversy, as the governing body is now run by Indians. He highlighted the significant presence of Indian authorities in the governing body, especially former BCCI Secretary J Shah.

Latif further said, “But with Indians of ICC President, CEO, CFO, Commercial Head, and Indians of events and communication heads, there is no possibility of suspension. India once again disturbed the spirit and essence of the gentleman’s game as an ugly day for cricket, and that too in a wide day.”

Indian officer in ICC
Currently, the top places in the ICC are conducted by Indians. J Shah is currently serving as the President of ICC, while Sanjog Gupta is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The current Chief Commercial Officer for ICC is Anurag Dahiya, while Ankur Khanna is currently serving as CFO. Additionally, Gaurav Saxena is the general manager of events and corporate communications at the ICC.
Despite this, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was recently fined 30% of his match fee to dedicate India’s seven -wicket win in the Asia Cup 2025 group match and to the victims of the tragic Pahgam attack in April 2025.
