Pakistan Concerns have been officially raised with the match referee Neyamur Rashid after a controversial Decision Review System (DRS) Moment related to on-field umpire Kumar Dharmasena During the third ODI against Bangladesh national cricket team in Mirpur.
The incident occurred during the tense closing moments of the match and has now sparked debate over whether proper DRS procedures were followed before allowing Bangladesh to review the LBW decision. The hosts eventually won the thrilling encounter by 11 runs, securing a 2–1 series win over the Pakistan national cricket team.
DRS controversy broke out during the last over of the third ODI
The controversial moment happened on the second-last ball of the Bangladesh spinner’s 50th over. Rishad Hussain Was bowling to Pakistan’s tailenders. At that time, Pakistan needed 12 runs from the last two balls to complete the chase of a remarkable target.
Rishad bowled a flighted ball on leg stump which spun away. Shaheen Afridi Towards the leg side. The on-field umpire initially ruled the delivery wide, eliminating any possibility of an LBW appeal.
However, moments later, Bangladesh opted to review the LBW decision, immediately causing confusion on the field. Replays on the stadium’s big screens showed the ball making contact with the bat before passing through the pads, forcing the umpire to overturn the original call.
Shaheen looked quite disappointed with this sequence as the situation in the match suddenly changed dramatically. Pakistan now needed 12 runs from just one ball.
Pakistan alleges replay influenced Bangladesh’s review
According to reports, Pakistan’s team management formally complained that Bangladesh would have decided to seek a review only after watching a replay of the delivery on the stadium screen. Under normal DRS protocols, teams are expected to decide whether to review an on-field decision before any replays are shown to the players. This rule exists to prevent teams from using television footage to guide their review decisions.
Pakistan believes that this procedure may not have been followed in Mirpur. Replays displayed on the big screen reportedly showed the ball passing close to Shaheen’s bat, which may have alerted the Bangladesh players to the potential lead and prompted them to challenge the decision. The visiting side has therefore asked the match officials to investigate whether the replays influenced the review decision.
Pakistan has also raised another concern over the time taken by Bangladesh to indicate the review. According to the playing conditions, teams have only 15 seconds to request a DRS review after the umpire’s decision. However, no visible timer appeared on the television broadcast during the moment in question, making it impossible for viewers to verify whether the review was taken within the permitted window. Pakistan’s management has reportedly raised questions about whether the review exceeded the permitted time limit, adding another layer to the controversy.
