The Pakistan Cricket Board also renews the offers for each franchise and their new franchise fees; However, Multan Sultans is yet to receive it, while other teams have already been offered their share.
The long-running rift between the PSL wing of the Pakistan Cricket Board and Multan Sultans owner Tareen came to light after Tareen publicly criticized the league in the run-up to the 10th edition. He had alleged that there was a lack of transparency in the PCB and no clear communication in its management,
This criticism became dominant and continued for months, while earlier this year, the PSL committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board threatened to blacklist him if he did not issue a public apology. Instead of apologizing, Tareen further provoked the Pakistan Cricket Board management with a taunting video, where he used sarcasm to apologize for ‘wanting to make the PSL better’.
Multan Sultans is the only PSL franchise that is yet to receive its ownership renewal
Earlier, last week, Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen had confirmed that the franchise has not yet received any offer from the PSL to renew the ownership of the franchise. The PCB had also confirmed that renewal offers, as well as the franchise fee, had already been sent to ‘all compliant PSL franchises’.
However, a representative of the Sultans confirmed that they were not one of the franchises to receive such an offer. On the other hand, other franchises had confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that they have received their renewal offers.
Since then, it has been believed that all 5 franchise owners were given the opportunity to extend their ownership, with renewal valid for another ten years. Representatives of the Sultans were invited to attend meetings related to the schedule and conduct of the upcoming PSL.
Pakistan Cricket Board threatened with legal action by Multan Sultans owners
With the latest tweet on his official
Responding to those who have raised questions as to why it is not being handled behind closed doors, he revealed that the Pakistan Cricket Board has refused to engage with him. They eventually threatened that if the hauntings continued, they would possibly resort to legal action.
“Since the PCB won’t communicate with us, here’s an update we can share ourselves.
Over the past month, we have sent several emails to the PSL management, asking for our evaluation and renewal letter (which every other team has already received). But there was no response. No response to our legal letter, no response to our email, no response to my letter to the Chairman.
Even other franchise representatives have asked why Multan is not being included in the evaluation and renewal process. no response.
For those asking why this is not being handled behind closed doors, it is simply because the PSL management refuses to engage with us.
If this haunting continues we will have no option but to take legal action. That’s the absolute last thing we want to do.
This whole situation is very unnecessary and could have been easily resolved over tea and biscuits. But a fragile ego makes even simple things difficult.
Let’s hope a better understanding comes, but it doesn’t seem likely…” read the official tweet from the Multan Sultans owner.
PSL franchise prices increased by 25%
Some franchisees then revealed that they now have 10 days to respond to renewal offers. Each franchise will have to consider paying an increased annual franchise fee, with a minimum of 25% added to what they paid in the previous season.
The Pakistan Cricket Board released a list of cities after which potential owners can name their new teams. Hence the PCB is going to add two new players to the number of participating teams, who will be named after them Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, Faisalabad, Gilgit, or Rawalpindi. The upcoming season of PSL is likely to take place in the April-May window next year,
