Pakistan captain shamelessly politicized the Women’s World Cup with “Azad Kashmir” comment

During the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, a new controversy has been triggered by Sana Mir, captain of former women’s national cricket team.

Sana Mir dropped a political bomb on Thursday, October 2, commenting between the Pakistan Women’s National Cricket Team and the Bangladesh Women’s National Cricket Team during the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 match.

In the third match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, Pakistan and Bangladesh R Premdasa Stadium, Colombo are head-to-head.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Pakistan’s women’s team displayed a terrible performance and lost wickets at regular intervals, eventually out for 129 in 38.3 overs.

Due to his team’s poor batting performance, the bowler Natalia Parvas was forced to come in the middle very quickly, and when the greatest controversy of the Women’s World Cup erupted.

Talking about Natalia Parvaz on-air, Sana Mir abandoned a politically loaded comment, stating that the bowler comes from “Azad Kashmir”. He said:

“In the context, a very young side is captaining, yes, he has won the qualifier, but many of these players are new. Natalia, who comes from Kashmir, Azad Kashmir, plays a lot of cricket in Lahore. He has to come to Lahore to play most of his cricket.”

This created a large dispute, and Sana Mir received cruelty from Indians to refer to Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (POK) as independent Kashmir.

In particular, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) referred to parts of former princely states of Jammu and Kashmir under the control of Pakistan after the first Indo-Pakistan War in 1947–48. These lands have been illegally occupied, and the Indian policy has rejected the implications that POK, called Azad Kashmir for the political agenda, is “independent” or really autonomous because Pakistan controls its defense, foreign affairs, etc.

Despite knowing the political implications and controversies around India and Pakistan on the Asia Cup 2025, Sana Mir abandoned such a pathetic comment, which raises a question whether the former captain had a deliberate step to trigger further controversy. A commentator of the ICC event should be more responsible and realize what his words have an impact on the people, and Sana Mir should be condemned for his comment.

Nashara Sandhu gets out of hit-wicket

During the match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, a classic Pakistani moment was built by Nashra Sandhu, who was out of the hit-wicket.

She became the first Pakistani woman and only the second player to suffer this mode of dismissal in the history of the Women’s World Cup after Lynet Smith. In addition, the wicket is held by Pakistan’s male cricketers Misbah-ul-Haq and Imam-ul-Haq, both experienced a hit-viccity in the ODI World Cup.

Meanwhile, speaking first in the toss, Pakistan’s female captain Fatima Sana said that they can beat any team in the world. He said:

“We will bat first. The pitch looks good for batting, hopefully we will play good cricket. It is difficult to defeat every team in the World Cup. If we play good cricket then we can beat any team. Three new faces for us.
