The reason behind Pakistan wearing pink jersey against South Africa in Rawalpindi T20I
The Pakistan men’s cricket team is taking part in an important awareness campaign by swapping its traditional green kit for a flashy pink jersey in the first T20I in Rawalpindi. This change is a symbolic gesture of solidarity with the global “Pinktober” Initiative, which aims to raise awareness about breast cancer.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officially announced the new look via its social media platforms, saying: “Turning pink for an important cause… As part of the #PINKtober initiative, Pakistan players will wear pink-themed kits in the first #PAKvSA T20I to raise awareness about breast cancer.”
This commitment to the cause extends beyond the players’ attire; “In addition, South African cricketers, match officials, commentators and broadcasters will also join the campaign by wearing pink ribbons throughout the match.” The entire stadium environment is reflecting the theme, with pink branded stumps being used during the fixture, while awareness messages and visuals are being displayed in the live broadcast. Furthermore, this initiative is in collaboration with Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Trust Hospital in Lahore “Free clinical examinations and screenings will be offered to same-day visitors.”
