Pacer begins rehab at BCCI CoE after missing IPL 2026

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fast bowler Harshit Rana recently checked into the Center of Excellence (BCCI) in Bengaluru to begin his rehabilitation. According to reports, the young fast bowler, who has been ruled out of IPL 2026, is recovering well after undergoing knee surgery following the injury earlier this year.

Rana suffered a serious knee injury during the World Cup practice match against South Africa in Navi Mumbai in February. He missed the T20 World Cup 2026 and the IPL season for Kolkata Knight Riders. He had knee surgery by orthopedic surgeon Dinshaw Pardiwala in February.

According to a report in Times of India, Harshit Rana had reached the office of the Board of Control for Cricket in India three days ago. He recently won the Best International Debut Player award at the BCCI Awards ceremony in Delhi last month.

“Harshit had checked in at the COE three days ago. He is doing well and his knee is healing faster than expected. He has gained a bit of weight, which means his fitness is a matter of concern. He will need to work on his fitness,” a source following the developments told TOI.

Rana also shared a positive update with his followers on Instagram. He posted a photo of himself giving a thumbs-up while resting on a hospital bed. “Surgery went well, now focused on recovery and getting back to doing what I love,” she wrote.

Harshit Rana’s journey in IPL and Team India across all formats

Harshit Rana made his debut for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022. He has played 34 matches in the IPL, taking 40 wickets at an average of 25.72 and an economy rate of 9.51. In the 2025 season, he took 15 wickets in 13 matches with best figures of 3-25.

His performances in the IPL helped him earn a place in the Indian team, although there were initial doubts about his selection in all formats. With time, he has become well established, especially in white-ball cricket.

In ODIs, he has taken 26 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 27.38 and an economy rate of 6.21, with his best figures of 4-39. He has also scored 124 runs at a strike rate of 121.56, including a top score of 52. In T20Is, he has taken nine wickets in nine matches with an economy rate of 10.60.

Harshit Rana has also played two Test matches since making his debut in the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. He has taken four wickets at an average of 50.75, with his best performance being 3-48.

Kolkata Knight Riders brought in Navdeep Saini as a replacement for their injured fast bowler in IPL 2026. However, the team has struggled to get going in the early part of the season.

KKR has played four matches so far, out of which it has lost three, while one match ended without a result due to rain. As a result, they have just one point and are placed ninth in the points table.

Their latest defeat came against Lucknow Super Giants at the Eden Gardens on 9 April, where the opposition chased the target in the final over. Their home game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on 6 April was abandoned due to heavy rain, with both teams having to share one point each.
