It was a moment full of pain, drama and courage during the third and final Test between West Indies and New Zealand at Mount Maunganui. West Indies batsman Kavem Hodge suffered a terrifying incident for a few seconds which quickly went viral on social media platforms.

The incident occurred on the third day of the third and final Test. Kevem Hodge was batting on 97 in West Indies’ first innings and was on his way to a good century against New Zealand. He was facing the first ball of Kiwi pacer Michael Ray’s 105th over of the innings.

On the very next ball, Hodge drove the ball down the leg side and took two runs to reach 99 runs. Then, on the next ball, he confidently pulled the ball for four runs to complete his second Test century.

This was a special century scored off 224 balls. This courageous innings played a vital role for West Indies as they avoided the follow-on in the ongoing third Test against New Zealand. Now, the touring team has 10 wickets left on the final day to chase a mammoth target of 419 more runs to level the Test series after drawing the first game on the tour.

After the stumps, Hodge said, “Thankfully, I was able to overcome it and cross the milestone. I said to myself, Hey, I spent the whole day getting to 90. I’ve got all day tomorrow too. Just stick to the processes. It doesn’t mean anything; I work so hard to go from zero to 90 and then make changes. So, stick to the processes, and keep focusing every chance I get.”

On the other hand, Tom Latham and Devon Conway created history by achieving something that had never happened before in Test cricket. New Zealand’s opening pair scored centuries in both innings of the ongoing Test match in Mount Maunganui.

After scoring 137 and 227 runs in the first innings, Latham and Conway came into the second innings with the same confidence and scored brilliant centuries against West Indies. By doing so, Latham and Conway became the first opening pair in Test cricket history to score centuries in both innings of the same match.
