Bangladesh have announced their squad for the limited overs series against West Indies and Mahidul Islam Ankone has been included in the ODI squad. Soumya Sarkar has also returned to the team for the first time after the Champions Trophy.
West Indies are scheduled to travel to Bangladesh for three ODIs to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on October 18, 21 and 23.
The series marks a follow-up tour after the West Indies team arrived in the subcontinent for a two-match Test series against India from October 2.
Mahidul Islam Ankon has been included in the ODI team for the first time
Bangladesh Cricket Board, while announcing its 16-member squad for the three-match ODI series, has included middle-order batsman Mahidul Islam Ankon in the ODI squad for the first time. They recently suffered a humiliating defeat against Afghanistan in the recent series.
Two players who played in the third ODI against Afghanistan on Tuesday, Mohammad Naim and fast bowler Nahid Rana, have missed the upcoming series due to strain and have also been ruled out.
West Indies have already landed in Dhaka, and the Tigers have also arrived in the country after their whitewash against Afghanistan. Therefore, the upcoming series will be an opportunity to restore the winning streak and Mehdi Hasan Miraz will focus on the same.
Liton Das ruled out of ODI series due to injury
West Indies canceled their practice session and press conference on Thursday for as yet undisclosed reasons; However, Windies head coach Darren Sammy and batsman Brandon King were at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur for the optional session.
Soumya Sarkar, who last played in the Champions Trophy in February, has been recalled for the series. Soumya Sarkar was not a part of the last series against Afghanistan. While T20I captain Liton Das, who led the team in the Asia Cup, is not likely to play in the ODIs due to a side strain injury suffered in the Asia Cup.
Liton missed the ODI as well as the T20I series against Afghanistan and is being rested as the BCB did not intend to take any risks with their T20I captain.
