Suryakumar Yadav’s India won their final group stage game against Netherlands in the 2026 T20 World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. It was a meaningless rubber match as the Men in Blue had already qualified for the Super 8 stages by winning three of their three matches. They qualified for the next round by finishing undefeated, placing four out of four.
Suryakumar Yadav’s team is in sensational form as they remain undefeated in 12 consecutive T20 World Cup matches since the 2024 T20 World Cup. This is a record made by one side. India has lost one match out of the last 27 matches played so far in ICC tournaments.
Suryakumar Yadav takes inspiration from Rohit Sharma
India set a record of winning 16 consecutive matches in ICC white-ball tournaments after their win against Pakistan – the longest by any team in history. Before the Men in Blue, Australia held the record for most consecutive wins (15) between the Champions Trophy 2006 and the ODI World Cup 2007. After the win against the Dutch, the winning streak extended to 17.
This winning streak was started by former Indian captain Rohit Sharma. During a post-match conversation with ICC broadcaster Sanjana Ganesan, Suryakumar Yadav was asked about Rohit Sharma, who is the International Cricket Council (ICC) ambassador for this edition of the T20 World Cup.

Sanjana said in a video shared by ICC, “This time the ICC ambassador is Rohit Sharma, with whom you have played for a long time. (0:05) Every time you see him on the field, he comes to meet you? Is he giving you any tips?”
In response, Suryakumar Yadav said, “I have always been asking him what should I do if I win the toss. But then it is a little different to see him on the other side. But it is always great to see him, I mean as an ICC ambassador. He did what he did in the 2024 World Cup and then also in the 2025 Champions Trophy.”

“I have played a lot of my cricket under him, franchise cricket too. And when I have played for India as well, I have learned a lot from him. Just trying to do the same things that he has done. If he has done something and he has achieved it, it means he has done something well. So there is nothing wrong in following his footsteps.”
Is Abhishek Sharma’s form a matter of concern for Suryakumar Yadav’s team?
Talking about the match, India won the toss and decided to bat first. Once again, Abhishek Sharma was out for a duck, as in other matches, someone from the batting lineup stepped up again, this time Shivam Dubey, who scored 66 and helped India post a total of 194 runs.
Chasing the target, the Dutch team made a steady start, but kept losing wickets in the middle overs. They had no answer to the spin of Varun Chakravarthy, who took three wickets and was also the second highest wicket taker in the competition so far with 9 wickets. India’s next match will be against South Africa on the same ground on Sunday.
