Former England captain Joe Root recently participated in a ‘this or that’ challenge which included many all-time great batsmen. Root, known as one of the greatest batsmen of modern-day cricket, chose legend Sachin Tendulkar as the best batsman among the greatest cricketers of all time during the challenge.
The right -handed batsman was last seen in action during the three -match ODI series against South Africa at home. He scored 175 runs in three matches on an average of 58.33 and a strike rate of 94.59, including 100 in the final match. However, the team led by Harry Brook suffered a 1-2 defeat against Proteas.

Joe Root recently participated in a “this or that” challenge with the Bami Army, where he was asked to select between the great people of cricket in the “living” format “living on the winners”.

Root raised Steve Smith on herself in the early stages. Former England is members of “Fab Four” along with Skipper Smith, Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson. Root and Smith each have scored more than 10,000 runs in long format, while Kohli retired from Test cricket in May 2025.
In the next round, Root chose former Australian captain Ricky Ponting on Smith. However, when he revealed the name of South African all -rounder Jacques Kallis, he stepped aside.
Joe Route chooses Sachin Tendulkar as the winner of “Is or that” Challenge
In the following stages of the challenge, Joe Root selected Jacques Kallis on legends such as Alastair Cook, Kumar Sangakkara and Brian Lara. Root chose the Indian batting icon Sachin Tendulkar from the Kallasa.
The 34 -year -old batsman was asked to select between Tendulkar and Virat Kohli in the final round. After a brief break, Root named Tendulkar as the winner of “this or that” challenge.

Tendulkar holds the record for the most runs in international cricket. He scored 34,357 runs in forms and for 100 centuries. Virat Kohli is third in the list of 27,599 runs and 82 centuries in the all-time run-scorers list. Joe Root has scored 21,737 runs in all three formats.

During the recent Test series against India, which became the second largest run-scorer in the root Test matches. In an interview with BBC Sport, Root said that he had praised Sachin Tendulkar since childhood and had grown up and learning and watching him.
Root said, “He made his Test debut before my birth. To play in the same field as him, to get a chance to play against him, was incredibly calm. He was someone I was praising, praising, and trying to learn from it,” Root said (through today).
Tendulkar is the highest run-scorer in Test cricket. He scored 15,921 runs in 200 matches. Root has scored 13,543 runs from 158 tests, ashamed of Tendulkar’s record just 2,378 runs. They are expected to continue to play for a few more years and can cross Tendulkar’s milestone.
