India national cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav has been one of the best T20I captains the game has ever seen. If Suryakumar Yadav succeeds in leading the national team to the T20 World Cup 2026 title, he will cement his authority as one of the rarest T20I captains.
Since Rohit Sharma took over as India’s T20I captain in July 2024 following the team’s second T20 World Cup title, the team has had a tremendous performance as the pair of Suryakumar and Gautam Gambhir remain unbeaten in bilateral series.
Suryakumar Yadav becomes India’s No. 1 T20I captain in terms of win percentage
Even in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, Mumbaikars have already taken the defending champions to the semi-finals, where they will face England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 5. However, the captain’s performances as a batsman in the showpiece event have been inconsistent.

His win rate has almost reached 81 percent (80.8%), surpassing Rohit Sharma’s record of 79.83 percent in T20I cricket. This is a big achievement in such a short time.

Aakash Chopra raised questions on Suryakumar Yadav’s World Cup record
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav has scored 231 runs in the current tournament, but questions have been raised on his overall World Cup record. Aakash Chopra pointed out that this is SKY’s fourth T20 World Cup and fifth World Cup overall, but he only has a few half-centuries to his name and those too against smaller teams.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “I was looking at Suryakumar Yadav’s numbers. When you check his World Cup numbers, you find that his overall numbers are excellent. He has scored two half-centuries against the USA, one of which was very important. It was a phenomenal innings. But outside of Associate Nations or smaller teams, with due respect, he has actually only had two half-centuries in the World Cup.”
He further said, “This is his fourth T20 World Cup. Including ODI, this is his fifth World Cup, but only two half-centuries have come against good big teams. One came against South Africa in Perth and the other came against Afghanistan in the last World Cup.”
