Former Indian captain Kris Srikkanth has been India’s biggest critic in the last year and has been continuously criticizing the Indian coach and management. However, after a successful ICC T20 World Cup performance, he has fallen out of favor with the Indian management.

India not only remained victorious in their campaign but also maintained their dominance in this format. India has fielded a team with many hard-hitting batsmen from number one. 1 to 7. India’s best finds were wicket-keeper batsmen Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan.

However, the former Indian selector had special praise for left-handed batsman Ishan Kishan, who was a surprise inclusion in the Indian XI. Kishan was India’s second-highest run-scorer in the competition, making his T20 World Cup debut after being out of the team for two years.

His innings was very important, it took away the match – Kris Srikkanth

Former Indian selector Chris Srikkanth has highlighted the importance of Ishan Kishan in the Indian team and praised the team management for bringing in Ishan Kishan at the right time, which helped India make a comeback in the premier tournament despite Abhishek Sharma’s poor form.

The left-handed batsman scored 317 runs in all innings at an average of 35.22 and a blistering strike rate of nearly 200. His innings of 54 off 25 balls in the final helped New Zealand gain the lead in the middle overs after Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson gave India the desired start.

“Agarkar and the team selection committee, well done, guys. They picked a fantastic team. Two years ago, nobody knew where Ishan Kishan was. But he performed at the domestic level and came in and was a real game changer.”

“Apart from Abhishek and Sanju giving great starts, their 54 runs ensured they kept the momentum going and New Zealand were out of the game. Their innings was very important; it took the match away,” he said on his YouTube channel.

Kris Srikkanth gave special praise to the Indian selector and head coach

He then praised Indian team coach Gautam Gambhir for providing clarity to the players about their roles. He was impressed by Dubey’s insistence that his roles were limited to big hit films only.

“Dubey said his job was to hit only six, which is brilliant. He came, did his job and left. It was brilliant that the role play was obvious. In this way, Gautam Gambhir did a brilliant job. Well done Gautam for encouraging Abhishek, Samson and Dubey to play their roles. Hats off to Gambhir,” said Chris Srikkanth.

He further highlighted that from openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma to leg spinner Varun Chakravarthy, every Indian player, irrespective of their form, knew their role well and performed to the best of their ability.

Kris Srikkanth praised the Indian captain

He also credited Suryakumar Yadav for his captaincy. After much criticism, the Indian captain finally fulfilled the demands and expectations from his captaincy in the knockout for India. Although Kris Srikkanth was dismissed for a duck, he feels he was a tactical genius in the final.

He said, “At the right time, his captaincy moves were brilliant. Even against England, he remained calm and not flattering. People like Abhishek and Varun, who were going through tough times, the captain supported them. With the support of the captain and the coach, a player gains confidence. Abhishek proved it. Even Varun got an important wicket.”

Kris Srikkanth concluded by paying tribute to the ruthless and fearless batting of the Men in Blue, who have scored 250+ thrice in their last four World Cup appearances in the tournament.
