Pakistan left-arm spinner Noman Ali achieved an important feat during his team’s ongoing Test match against Bangladesh in Mirpur.
On the fifth day (Tuesday) of the first Test between the two teams, Noman completed the milestone of 100 Test wickets. He was the ninth spinner from Pakistan to reach this milestone.
He reached there on Tuesday by dismissing Mehdi Hasan Miraz in Bangladesh’s second innings. Overall, Noman Ali became the 21st bowler and 9th spinner for Pakistan to take 100 Test wickets.
Noman Ali took 4 wickets in the first test against Bangladesh
Pakistan’s decision to invite Bangladesh to bat first didn’t really pay off. Bangladesh scored 413 runs thanks to a century from home captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto and half-centuries from Mominul Haq and Mushfiqur Rahim.
Noman took only 1 wicket in the first innings and dismissed Mominul for 91 runs. However, Mohammad Abbas took five wickets.
In reply, Pakistani debutant Azan Awais scored a century, while three other batsmen – Abdullah Fazal, Salman Agha and Mohammad Rizwan scored fifties, but the visitors could only manage 386 runs and a lead of 27 runs.
Noman Ali himself performed better in the second innings and took three wickets this time. On either side of Miraz’s dismissal, Nonam dismissed Shanto for 87 and Taijul Islam for 3.
Bangladesh declared their second innings at 240/8, setting Pakistan a target of 268 runs with a little more than two sessions left in the rain-affected match.
Noman Ali becomes third fastest Pakistan spinner to take 100 Test wickets
When Noman took his 100th wicket, he was playing his 22nd Test. Among Pakistani spinners, it is the third fastest based on matches played, but among all Pakistani bowlers, it is joint fourth fastest.

Noman Ali becomes the oldest player to take 100 test wickets
After intensive work in first-class cricket, Noman was given the opportunity to make his Test debut in January 2021 at the age of 34.
Since then, he has managed to become a mainstay in this Pakistani line-up, especially on the turning surfaces. In 2024, he and Sajid Khan together took all 20 wickets against England in Multan.
Now 39-year-old Noman has become the oldest player to take 100 Test wickets. However, he is not the only player to be 39 years of age at the time of taking his 100th Test wicket. He defeated the previous record holder, England’s Bobby Peel, by a margin of 33 days.
