New Zealand’s young fast bowling trio of Blair Tickner, William O’Rourke and Matthew Fisher will return to form for the White Ferns ahead of the upcoming tour of Bangladesh. All three fast bowlers have recovered from their respective injuries and will be an important part of the white-ball team led by Tom Latham.
New Zealand will not have big names in their team, as many players are currently part of two franchise tournaments in Pakistan and India, i.e. PSL and IPL. After finishing as runners-up in the 2026 T20 World Cup, they hosted South Africa for a five-match T20I series.
New Zealand’s experienced cricketer Tom Latham will lead the team as its captain. He replaced Mitchell Santner as the white-ball captain after the spinner departed due to his commitments with Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
New Zealand’s fast bowling trio is ready to return to Bangladesh tour
Three fast bowlers, Matthew Fisher, Will O’Rourke and Blair Tickner, are set to return to the New Zealand squad after injuries for the white-ball tour of Bangladesh in April.
O’Rourke is returning from a back injury for three ODIs, while on the other hand, two other fast bowlers, including Matt Fisher who missed the game due to a calf injury, will only be included in the T20 squad. Blair Tickner has been named in both sides after recovering from an ankle injury.
Head coach Rob Walter said, “Will, Blair and Matt have been working very hard over the last few months to get themselves back on the park and back in the running for selection and we are delighted to welcome them back to the group.”
Dean Foxcroft recalled to New Zealand squad after tremendous domestic season
Dean Foxcroft, the off-spin bowling all-rounder, will return to the white-ball setup for the first time since April 2024. He has been recalled to the team after an excellent domestic season, finishing as the second highest scorer for Central Districts.
The New Zealand coach said, “Given the amount of cricket being played in the modern game, it is important to have depth in our bowling stock. It is great for our team to have players of this quality back.”
Some other big names in the competition include Mohammad Abbas and Adi Ashok, the two players who have been named in the ODI squad for New Zealand A after their successful ODI series against Sri Lanka. Christian Clarke and Ben Sears have also been named in the squad for both competitions. Jayden Lennox of New Zealand’s winning series in India is set to make his T20I debut.
