New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry has been ruled out of the one-off Test against Ireland, the country’s apex cricket regulatory body confirmed through an official press release on Wednesday (May 27).

In a bid to keep the talent fresh for the England tour, the New Zealand Cricket Board has decided to send them to London to begin preparations for the Test series against England, which begins at Lord’s on Thursday, June 4.

New Zealand announces fast-paced team for Test
On 7 May, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced a squad to take on Ireland and England in whitewash. The fast-paced team is filled with top-tier talent. Kyle Jamieson, Will O’Rourke, Jack Foulkes, Matt Henry, Nathan Smith and Blair Tickner were among the fast bowlers named for both tours.

As per the latest update, Matt Henry has been ruled out of the one-off Test and will prepare for the England Test series with his squad, Will O’Rourke and Kyle Jamieson.
Matt Henry will not play Test against Ireland
The Ireland vs New Zealand one-off Test match is currently going on at the Stormont Cricket Ground in Northern Ireland. Home team Ireland won the toss and decided to bowl first. Blackcaps captain Tom Latham has already returned to the pavilion after being out on zero.
Latham said before the match, “I think from a Test match point of view, I think the more playing experience, the more positive experience you can get just from being in those conditions… We play eight first-class games a year at home, which is not a huge number, but it’s obviously a bit more than Ireland.”
Ireland has also been affected by injuries. Experienced batsman Paul Stirling is not in the match due to a calf injury. The BCC said Stirling has not batted since suffering a knee ligament injury during Ireland’s defeat to Australia in the T20 World Cup in February.
