Navjot Singh Sidhu criticized fake quotes

Former India batsman Navjot Singh Sidhu has strongly refuted a social media post in which it was falsely claimed that he had made a controversial statement about Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

After Rohit Sharma was removed from the post of India’s ODI captain, both Gambhir and Agarkar have been the target of Rohit Sharma’s fans. Earlier this month, Shubman Gill was made the ODI captain in place of Rohit, which surprised everyone.

While Rohit led India to the Champions Trophy title earlier this year, the selectors and team management decided to hand over the captaincy to a young player.

Amid criticism from Gambhir and Agarkar, a fan page on X (formerly Twitter) claimed that Navjot Singh Sidhu had called for his removal. The post also suggested that Rohit should be reinstated as captain if India wants to win the 2027 ODI World Cup.

“If India wants to win the 2027 ODI World Cup, BCCI should remove Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir as soon as possible and with all due respect hand over the captaincy back to Rohit Sharma,” the post said.

Navjot Singh Sidhu saw the post on the social media platform and immediately reacted to it. To set the record straight, the former cricketer turned commentator took the help of X and wrote:

“Never said this, don’t spread fake news, never imagined this. Shame on you.”

Gautam Gambhir’s tenure so far:

Gautam Gambhir took charge of the Indian team as the head coach in July last year. He replaced Rahul Dravid soon after leading the Indian team to glory in the T20 World Cup.

Although Gautam Gambhir’s reign didn’t start off promisingly, things went really well for him and the Indian team last year. At the end of 2024, India performed poorly in Tests and failed to qualify for the WTC final. Before losing the series in Australia too, they faced a whitewash in the home series against New Zealand.

However, the Indian team has performed really well this year. After winning the ODI and T20 series against England on home soil, the Men in Blue won the Champions Trophy in the UAE. This was followed by a brilliant performance in England, where they drew the five-match series 2-2.

Gautam Gambhir and the rest of the team are currently in Australia for the limited overs tour. India had to face defeat in the first ODI and would like to make a comeback in the second match to be held on Thursday.
