Shubman Gill looked to be in good touch to end his long-running poor form in T20I cricket but once again failed to convert his good start into a big score in the ongoing fourth T20I between India and Australia at the Carrara Oval in Queensland on Thursday (November 6).
Nathan Ellis bowled a brilliant slower ball which completely deceived Shubman Gill. Gill returned against Australia after scoring 46 runs in 39 balls with the help of four fours and a six.

The ball fell on a good length and the India vice-captain went for a cross-bat shot, but the ball slipped under his bat and hit the off stump.

Shubman Gill is among the top performers in the current T20 series
Despite mixed performances in the format, the right-handed batsman is currently the second leading run scorer in the ongoing five-match T20I series in Australia.
India’s ODI and Test captain scored 103 runs in four innings at an average of 34.33 and a strike rate of 127.16 in the ongoing T20 series against Australia. Notably, Gill was recalled to India’s T20I setup after more than a year and was even made the vice-captain.
But since his promotion to the leadership, the Punjab player has struggled to deliver consistent performances in this format. Even in his first ODI series as captain, Gill has managed only 43 runs in three matches in Australia last month.

Meanwhile, the Men in Blue fought hard but could not fully capitalize on their start and finished with 167/8 against Australia in the fourth T20I in Queensland. Shubman Gill looked calm and confident against the Australian bowlers and played a brilliant inning of 46 runs.

Gill and Abhishek Sharma, who played a quickfire 28 off 21 balls, added 56 runs in just 6.4 overs, giving India a flying start against Australia. After his departure, India’s middle order had to struggle to strengthen its foundation. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav scored 20 runs and Shivam Dubey scored 22 runs, but they failed to play big innings for the team.
The Australian bowlers tightened their grip in the middle overs, forcing India to rebuild rather than dominate. India lost wickets rapidly in the second half of the innings, slowing their scoring rate. But when it looked like India would fall short of a competitive score, Axar Patel came to the rescue.
Axar’s unbeaten 21 off just 11 balls provided the late boost and aggressive intent that helped India cross the 160-mark against Australia in the ongoing fourth T20I in Queensland. Australia started their chase brilliantly in the fourth T20 match against India.
Captain Mitchell Marsh and Matt Short gave a great start to the Kangaroos while chasing the target of 168 runs. After the dismissal of the Australian openers, Australia’s middle order collapsed as India now need two wickets to win the fourth game to take the lead in the T20 series.
