A source close to Shunto was told by Cricbuzz, “I think he will not continue as a test captain after the test series against Sri Lanka. I have known him for a long time, and as far as I understand, he is not happy with everything that is going around him.”

Meanwhile, Najmul Hussain Shantio decided to withdraw from his role after the ongoing test series against Sri Lanka, following a sudden and amazing step by BCB. Indeed, BCB removed the Shanto as the ODI captain of Bangladesh without any warning, which considered him to quit the Test captaincy.

Najmul Hussain Shunto shocked when he was removed as ODE captain

Najmul was leading the team in Tests and ODIs after giving T20I captaincy to focus on his batting. He clearly told the board that he wanted to continue in both formats. But earlier this month, BCB held an emergency zoom meeting on June 12 and nominated Mehidi Hasan Miraj as a new ODI captain for a year, without discussing with Najmul first.

The news came as a huge shock. Najmul Hussain Shantio was scheduled to meet Bangladesh head coach Phil Semans, who was planning the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. But before the meeting could have held, Nazmul Abedin, president of BCB Cricket Operations, called and told him that he was no longer a ODI captain.

Najmul was embarrassed and hurt. He did not attend the meeting with Simmons, who waited to discuss the team. To make things worse, Najmul had already talked to some players about his roles for the Sri Lanka ODI, as he was expecting to lead the side.

Najmul Hussain Shanto was not upset: BCB President OD breaks silence on the drama

Najmul has already informed some of his close contacts and is expected to officially inform the board soon. However, BCB President, Aminul Islam said Najmul was not upset about the removal of ODI captain. He claimed that Najmul accepted the decision peacefully and when he was told about it, he politely handled the situation.

In the Bangla Daily Color Kanto, Aminul was quoted as saying, “His captaincy was not removed by coming to the talk of Shanto; rather, the decision board was taken with everyone’s consent. We decided a new and separate plan. As we are currently playing a lot of matches of all forms, we wanted to go with three different captains.

As Litton and Shanto are captaining T20 and testing sides respectively, and shunto are performing well in tests, we thought that if Miraz leads the ODI side, Shanto will focus better in other formats. This was the policy decision of the board.

“It was our plan that one of us would talk to Shanto. The person later told that he did his work and Shanto got this decision in a very cordial manner. The situation may become different due to some false news and misunderstanding. To conclude that there are two sides in this situation: The board was decided with consent, and the calm was decided by the peace.”
