The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has finally issued an official statement on the sudden removal of Bangladesh captain Najmul Hussain Shanto from his role as an ODI captain.
It seems that the young player of Bangladesh has been influenced, as many people in the cricket fraternity feel that it inspired Shanto to step down from the Test Captain as well. However, BCB President Nazmul Abadin begged to separate the opinion.
Finally, in a show called Saturday night, he revealed that the idea of Shunto’s snub is baseless, as BCB decided on the basis of the current situation, as Bangladesh did not have an ODI captain at that time, given that Santo’s term ended with 2025 ICC Champion Trophy.

BCB makes official statement on Bangladesh ODI captaincy
Nazmul Abedin, president of BCB Cricket Operations, faced immense criticism after leaving Najmul Hussain Shantio and taking Mehidi Hasan Miraj as his successor. All the fans of Bangladesh had estimated the expansion of the tenure for the former captain.
Nazmul said on the show, “We had no ODI captain after the Champions Trophy. It is not true that Shanto was removed from his captaincy. In fact, there was no captain.”
“Shunto may have assumed that he would lead in the next series as he was the previous captain. It is nothing wrong thinking. But the board may have other plans. Yes, the board may have appointed Shanto again, but it would require a separate announcement,” he stated on the show that Jamuna is aired on TV.
He further confirmed that since he did not have a captain at that time, there was no question of any discussion with Shanto. A decision was made and shunt was informed, as he was the previous captain.
The BCB president said, “The captaincy decision was taken in a meeting, and it was my responsibility that I should inform both Shanto and Mehidi Hasan Miraj. It did not include any other terms or conditions. That is why I informed Shanto earlier.”
BCCI is firm with the boycott decision, while BCB prepares to host ACC meeting
The future of Asia Cup 2025 depends entirely on the meeting which is held in Dhaka among all member countries of the Asian Cricket Council. However, the continental championship, the alleged host nation for India, has called for a boycott of the event.
Due to the current political unrest in Bangladesh, the BCCI refused to send its officers to Dhaka on 24 July for the scheduled annual general body meeting of the ACC. However, despite repeated arguments, PCB chief, Mohsin Nazki, who is now head of ACC, is pressurizing BCCI to attend the meeting in Dhaka.
Bangladesh to keep Litton Das as captain for Asia Cup 2025?
Although nothing has been decided yet, the Asia Cup can also be canceled. Bangladesh is still ready for a challenging competition at the Continental Championship.
With the Asia Cup 2025 game being played in the small format, Bangladesh may think of Litton Das to lead him in the Multi-Team Championship, as he is his recent most successful skipper.
Litton also led Bangladesh to win a historic distant series against Sri Lanka in T20I. Sri Lanka is the defending champion of the T20 Asia Cup.
