Bangladesh national cricket team recorded an impressive 86-run win over Australia national cricket team in the first ODI in Dhaka and took 1-0 lead in the ongoing three-match ODI series. Express fast bowler Nahid Rana was the hero behind the Tigers’ historic win over the Kangaroos.
Rana’s incredible pace and match-winning spells gave fans an exciting glimpse of his talent and showed why he is becoming one of the most dangerous fast bowlers in the world. Even the Bangladesh bowler has been offered a Big Bash League (BBL) deal after his Dhaka heroics.
Nahid Rana’s storm rocks Australia in Dhaka ODI
Nahid Rana completely changed the game with his fast pace and fearless bowling. Bowling at speeds in excess of 150 kmph, the youngster demolished Australia’s batting line-up and finished with a brilliant spell of 4/41 in his quota of 10 overs in the opening match of the three-match ODI series in Dhaka.
Cameron Green showed some fight with a commendable half-century and kept Australia national cricket team’s hopes alive, but wickets kept falling at the other end as Bangladesh national cricket team’s bowlers remained in complete control throughout the chase.
Bangladesh created ODI history
Later, due to lightning, players had to leave the field at Shere Bangla National Stadium. At that time, Australia still needed 94 runs off just 46 balls, and they needed a miracle. As the weather did not improve, officials abandoned the game and Bangladesh were declared winners under the DLS method, with Australia suffering a crushing defeat by 86 runs in Dhaka.
With this victory, Bangladesh created history. This was only the second time Bangladesh had defeated Australia in men’s ODI cricket and their first 50-over win over the six-time world champions in more than two decades. Bangladesh will enter the second ODI in Dhaka hoping to deliver another memorable performance and clinch the series against Australia.
Alex Carey plays down Naheed Rana-Josh Inglis drama
Meanwhile, Alex Carey did not make a big issue of Nahid Rana’s loud celebration after dismissing Australia captain Josh Inglis. He said that Bangladesh’s fast bowler brought some extra excitement and intensity to the match.
A heated moment unfolded during the first ODI on June 9 when Rana and Inglis got into a heated argument on the field. After taking the wicket of Inglis, Rana celebrated aggressively and gave a rousing farewell as the batsman was leaving. Inglis did not take this lightly.
He stopped, turned back and angrily advanced towards Rana, leading to a brief face-off between the two players on the field before being separated by the Bangladesh players in Dhaka. However, Carey revealed that he is yet to find out what were the words that led to the on-field drama in the first ODI.
Cricket.com.au quoted Alex Carey as saying, “I think that’s what we want in cricket, a bit of spice. You obviously don’t want to take it to extremes, but I thought the two players were coming out to compete. Obviously, he was exceptional tonight with some extra bounce on the wicket, which allowed pace and bounce. He bowled really well.”
Alex Carey has invited Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana to Adelaide Strikers.
Carey also jokingly said that Rana should come and play for Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League. The Australian star said, “If he wants, he can come to Adelaide Strikers.” Even the BBL posted on Twitter: “Can we see Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana in #BBL16… “

He also praised Rana and expected him to perform well against him in the second ODI on 11 June. Carey said, “I think we all knew he (had) the pace, but I think until you get down to it, he’s a really tall athlete and he’s got a bit of bounce as well. He bowled really well, that’s what I would say… We just couldn’t keep him out of the game. Now we’ve got a chance to play against him in the next two ODIs here on Thursday and Sunday. Hopefully we can keep him out of the series from now on.
