Mustafizur Rahman will miss Zimbabwe tour, will play The Hundred match due to hamstring injury

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman will miss the remainder of the Zimbabwe tour. Team physiotherapist Bayajedul Islam Khan said the left-arm fast bowler suffered meniscal degeneration in his right knee as well as a Grade 1 muscle injury in his right hamstring.

Mustafizur could not play in the second ODI after suffering an injury in the opening match. He was also set to become the first Bangladesh cricketer to play in The Hundred after being signed by Birmingham Phoenix for a base price of GBP 100,000. This tournament is going to run from 20th July to 20th August in England.

Mustafizur Rahman ruled out of Zimbabwe tour and start of The Hundred

Mustafizur Rahman has been ruled out of the remainder of Bangladesh’s tour of Zimbabwe with a hamstring injury. The left-arm fast bowler felt pain while bowling in the first ODI and left the field before completing his spell. He will also miss a significant part of the upcoming Hundred.

A scan on 7 July confirmed a Grade 1 muscle tear in his right hamstring, as well as minor meniscal degeneration in his right knee. Bangladesh team physiotherapist Bayajedul Islam Khan said Mustafizur Rahman is expected to take at least four weeks to recover. He said:

“Mustafizur Rahman complained of pain in his right hamstring while bowling during the opening ODI and left the field. We underwent a scan on July 7 and as per the report, he has a Grade 1 muscle tear in his right hamstring. He has a minor degenerative problem in the same knee, and we expect his recovery to take at least four weeks. Mustafizur will return home and begin his rehabilitation.”

Bangladesh’s focus is on Mustafizur Rahman’s recovery before Australia Test.

Mustafizur Rahman bowled six overs for 19 runs in the opening ODI against Zimbabwe before leaving the field due to injury. He also batted at number 10 during Bangladesh’s unsuccessful chase. Left-arm fast bowler Shoriful Islam was included in the playing eleven in his place for the second ODI.

The injury comes just months after Mustafizur recovered from a similar knee problem following the Pakistan Super League (PSL) earlier this year. That setback forced him out of the first two ODIs against New Zealand, before he returned with five wickets in the third match.

After that injury, Bangladesh Cricket Board had also withdrawn his no objection certificate for the remaining matches of PSL. The management is now focused on helping him recover in time for Bangladesh’s two-Test series against Australia, which begins on August 13 as part of the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle.

Zimbabwe won the ODI series with Ben Curran’s unbeaten century.

Zimbabwe took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series with a 13-run win over Bangladesh in the second ODI. Ben Curran scored an unbeaten 111 and became only the seventh Zimbabwean batsman to use his bat for the full 50 overs, helping the hosts score 247 runs.

Brad Evans gave Zimbabwe a strong position by scoring unbeaten 58 runs at number eight with the help of five sixes during the 99-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Bangladesh responded well with the help of half-centuries from Tanzeed Hasan and Tauheed Hridoy and reached 169/3 before the collapse.

The visiting team lost its last seven wickets for just 65 runs and was out for 234 runs. Richard Ngarawa led Zimbabwe’s bowling attack with three wickets, while Brad Evans and Blessing Muzarabani took two wickets each as they secured a series win at Harare Sports Club.
