After a disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup, the Pakistan women’s national cricket team is all set to take on the Sri Lanka women’s national cricket team in a white-ball series later this month. Muniba Ali has been made the captain of the T20 team.

On Saturday, July 18, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the white-ball squad and fixtures for the team’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, which begins on July 23 and ends on August 4. Meanwhile, Babar Azam’s ‘match-winner’ Mohammad Nawaz was banned for violating the ICC Anti-Doping Code.

Pakistan announced team for Sri Lanka tour

Pakistan women’s national cricket team and Sri Lanka women’s national cricket team are set to face each other in a three-match ODI series and three-match T20I series later this month. In the absence of Fatima Sana, Muniba Ali has taken command of the team.

The Pakistan team is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka on July 20 and will train on July 21 and 22 before the series begins at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota on July 23. Meanwhile, Pakistan is set to host a four-team ODI tournament ahead of the 2027 World Cup.

The three-match ODI series is important for both teams as it is part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2025-29; Pakistan and Sri Lanka will try to collect valuable points.

Pakistan selectors have announced two different captains for the tour. Star all-rounder Fatima Sana will captain the team in the ODI series. However, Fatima will miss the T20I series as she will travel to England to play in The Hundred after the ODI matches.

Fatima will create history by becoming the first Pakistani female cricketer to participate in The Hundred. In his absence, experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Muniba Ali will captain Pakistan in the three-match T20 series in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan selectors have also made major changes in the T20 team. After a disappointing campaign in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, the team management wants to give more opportunities to different players and build a strong team for the future.

The PCB said in an official statement: “Eight changes have been made to the T20 squad representing Pakistan at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, underscoring the selectors’ focus on developing and integrating emerging talent into the national setup.
