Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, match number 33, will be the tightest encounter between the two most successful franchises of the tournament. This will see Mumbai Indians (MI) facing off against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Ahead of cricket’s ‘El Clasico’, MI have shared an update on the injury of their former captain Rohit Sharma.

Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury during the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The former India captain had to retire from the match due to injury and never returned to bat. Rohit was not involved in the last two matches for the five-time winners and played Danish Malevar in the last game against Gujarat Titans.

MI gives update on Rohit Sharma’s injury

Ahead of the big clash, MI spokesperson shared an update on Rohit Sharma and his injury status. A few days ago, Rohit was seen bowling in the nets with his injured leg bandaged. Today, before Mumbai’s practice, he was seen playing with his children.

“Rohit Sharma is still being assessed. The decision on whether he will play or not will be taken at the time of the toss tomorrow at 7 pm,” an MI spokesperson said. Rohit Sharma made a great start to his IPL campaign by scoring a half-century in his first game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Despite playing four games in the season, Rohit is the third-highest run-scorer for the franchise. He would like to bounce back in the next game and score big against CSK at Wankhede.

Always like to bat at number 3-Tilak Verma

Tilak Verma was present during the pre-match press conference and said, “Rohit bhai told me: ‘You play 15 balls, after that we know what you can do.’ Tilak Verma scored a century in the last game, which came after he scored 43 runs in 5 matches.

When asked about his preferred batting position, Tilak said,I always like to bat at number 3. But I am ready to bat at any position for the team.” For Tilak, the improvement in form will be a good sign for the five-time winners, as they will have to win every match to qualify for the playoffs.

Mumbai Indians have finally found their rhythm

Mumbai Indians are currently placed 6th on the points table after a big 99-run win against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the last game, which has seen a good jump in their net run rate which has turned positive. Mumbai Indians have faced some problems in the middle order as Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya have not been able to score runs yet.

Mumbai would like to maintain the winning streak against its arch-rival CSK and win the match. If MI loses then their qualification for the next round will become very difficult and Pandya will be under immense pressure because if MI fails then it will be the second time in three years that they have failed to qualify under him.
