While the USA cricket team surprised fans around the world with surprisingly effective bowling efforts, Saurabh Netravalkar recorded the worst bowling figures in ICC T20 World Cup history.
Indian-origin USA bowler, Saurabh Netrawalkar, who was against Team India, conceded a record 65 runs in his 4-over spell without taking any wicket. These figures would have ultimately not only hurt the team but also deeply damaged the morale of the cricketer.
A night that Saurabh Netravalkar would prefer to forget
The USA cricket team was in excellent form during the third match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. At one point in the India vs USA match, the Men in Blue were trailing by 6 runs with only 77 runs on the scoreboard. Shadley Van Schalkwyk took a total of 4 wickets in the innings including 3 wickets. Ali Khan, Mohammad Mohsin and Harmeet Singh also did their job accurately for the USA cricket team with the ball.
But the situation was not humble enough for 34-year-old Saurabh Netrawalkar. The left-arm fast bowler, who is originally from Mumbai, will try to forget that night as soon as possible. But the record books will remain untouched for many years to come. USA captain Monank Patel called for the bowler during the powerplay and slog overs, when the batsmen were trying to score as many runs as possible.
Before Saurabh, Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka held the record of giving most runs in a T20 World Cup match. The former Sri Lankan batsman had given away 64 runs in 4 overs against Pakistan in 2007.
Suryakumar Yadav beats USA bowler fiercely
Indian batsmen did the same against Netravalkar also. Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma provided big hits to the seamer during their brief innings. But the best performer in the match was Suryakumar Yadav (84*), who scored the most runs from the out-of-form bowler. In the 16th over, Yadav hit three fours and a six. And in the 20th over, the batsman hit two sixes and a four against the USA bowler.
The momentum USA had gained against the experienced Indian bowling attack was lost in the second over. As against India’s 161 runs, the United States national cricket team could only score 132 runs for 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. India won its first match of T20 World Cup 2026 by 19 runs.
