Mukesh Chaudhary rejoins CSK team after attending his mother’s funeral

Chennai Super Kings left-arm fast bowler Mukesh Choudhary has rejoined the team after his mother’s funeral.

Chaudhary’s mother Prem Devi died on Tuesday, April 21, after almost a year-long battle with the disease. It is reported that he was undergoing treatment at Tata Hospital in Mumbai.

The last rites were performed in Choudhary’s hometown Bhilwara in Rajasthan.

Mukesh Chaudhary left from Hyderabad

According to reports, Chaudhary left for Bhilwara after CSK’s last match – against Sunrisers Hyderabad – which was held in Hyderabad.

Although CSK lost by 10 runs, Choudhary impressed with the ball by dismissing big hitters like Travis Head and Ishan Kishan on consecutive balls. That was the only game he played so far in IPL 2026.

CSK’s next match is to be played against Mumbai Indians in Mumbai. It is understood that Chaudhary did not go from Hyderabad to Mumbai with the team, but went to Bhilwara. It is reported that Mukesh Chaudhary joined the CSK team on Wednesday night after returning from Bhilwara.

Chaudhary’s return should boost the morale of the CSK team and is a relief for the team management, especially when their main left-arm fast bowler Khalil Ahmed has been ruled out of IPL 2026.

Hailing from Rajasthan, living in Maharashtra for a long time

Mukesh Chaudhary and his family are originally from Bhilwara, Rajasthan, where he was also born. The family later shifted to Darhwa, Maharashtra, where Mukesh’s father Gopal ran a business.

Following the move, Chaudhary began playing cricket for Maharashtra and made his first-class debut for the state in 2017. In 2019, he also made his List A and T20 debut for the state.

Despite injuries, CSK stood by Mukesh Chaudhary

Choudhary first joined Chennai Super Kings in 2022 and impressed in his debut season. Although CSK finished ninth, he made a statement by taking 16 wickets in his maiden IPL season.

Injuries have been a constant in his life and have hindered his ability to perform to his fullest, but Chennai Super Kings have full faith in him.

He was ruled out of the 2023 season, but has played only 4 IPL matches since 2024 due to both injuries and poor form.

MS Dhoni encouraged Mukesh Chaudhary

According to sources close to the southpaw, former CSK captain MS Dhoni has extended his full support to the bowler during this difficult time.

Apart from keeping him motivated, it is reported that Dhoni also actually met Chaudhary’s mother in the hospital.

CSK’s next match

Chennai Super Kings’ next match is against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians on Thursday, April 23. This game will be held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

While it is unclear whether Mukesh Chaudhary will be a part of the game or not, the big news concerns the legends, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. Both the veteran players are struggling with injuries and there is speculation whether either of them will be seen in IPL’s ‘El Clasico’.

Latest reports have revealed that both Sharma and Dhoni are unlikely to play the game.
