MS Dhoni locked for IPL 2026

Dhoni is arguably the greatest captain in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is the heart and soul of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and has led the franchise to huge success in the league.

He has been a part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since the inaugural edition of the tournament and only changed his position after the franchise was banned for a few years.

Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings to victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) five times, with the most recent win coming in 2023 when the yellow team defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad.

MS Dhoni is 44 and already past his best, but he still remains an important member of CSK. Ruturaj Gaikwad has been chosen as Dhoni’s successor but last year, when the Maharashtra star got injured, the great captain had to step up as the leader once again.

After the end of the season, Dhoni kept his IPL future in suspense and did not reveal whether he would play the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 or retire. However, now CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan has confirmed that Dhoni will not retire.

No, he is not going to retire – CSK CEO on MS Dhoni

In a video shared by Provoke Lifestyle on its Instagram handle, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan was asked by the kids about MS Dhoni’s IPL future, and he clearly said that the great captain is not going to retire.

Here’s how the conversation unfolded:

Child 1: So are you planning to win the IPL Cup next year?

Vishwanathan: Yes, we are ready, but we don’t know whether we will win or not, but we will try our best.

Child 1: Is Dhoni going to retire?

Viswanathan: No, he will not retire.

Child 1: When will Dhoni retire?

Vishwanathan: I will ask him and get back to you.

Child 1: Which new member are you planning to add to your team?

Vishwanathan: We will know this only when the auction register comes out. This will be known by the first week of December. After that I can talk to you, after that you can interview me.

Child 2: How do you feel after becoming the Managing Director of CSK?

Viswanathan: I feel very proud to be one of the best teams in the IPL.

CSK’s campaign in IPL 2025 was very poor.

Chennai Super Kings finished their Indian Premier League 2025 campaign at the tenth position in the points table. They won only four and lost 10 matches in the season and had a net run rate of -0.647.

This was the first time that Chennai Super Kings finished at the bottom of the points table in history, and was also the first instance that the team missed the playoffs for two consecutive seasons.
