Legendary Indian wicketkeeper-batsman and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend MS Dhoni is once again showing why he is different from others. While most people thought that MS Dhoni might retire after IPL 2025, the CSK legend has quietly got back to doing what he does best, and that is training hard and getting ready for the next edition of the tournament.

For the last two months, Dhoni has been following a strict routine at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi. Every afternoon around 1:30 pm, the former Indian captain comes to the ground, hits the gym for an hour and then spends about two hours in the nets, working on his power-hitting.

MS Dhoni prepares for IPL 2026 with intense training routine

With Ranji Trophy 2025-26 matches underway, Dhoni does not always get access to the main pitch of the JSCA Stadium. But whenever it is free, the veteran makes full use of it by doing practice sessions like finisher matches.

After finishing his batting and fitness practice, Dhoni ends his routine with a 30-minute swimming session before going home at 6 pm.

Fans in Ranchi often see him riding on his superbikes or vintage cars and taking his usual route to the stadium for about four and a half hours of intense training every day. But beyond the wonderful journey, it is clear that Dhoni is gearing up to make a strong comeback with Chennai Super Kings for the upcoming IPL 2026.

MS Dhoni follows 4:30 hour training routine: JSCA

“His routine has been fixed for the last two months. He comes to the stadium at 1:30 pm, goes to the gym for an hour, then pads up and does power-hitting training in the nets for two hours,” The Times of India quoted a JSCA official as saying on condition of anonymity.

If the center wicket is available and no match is taking place, it also performs match simulation. Mahi passes out after the next half-hour swimming session. He leaves the premises at 6 pm. He’s just doing the same thing he’s done his whole life—working hard.”

MS Dhoni ready for another season, CSK plan flexible role

Meanwhile, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan recently put an end to all the retirement rumors by confirming that Dhoni will continue to play next season. The 44-year-old is still as committed as ever as he focuses on fitness, discipline and his batting for the next season after a poor 2025 campaign.

Last week, at an event in Chennai, the CSK CEO had said, “No, he is not retiring before this IPL. We are hopeful that Dhoni will play next season.” Notably, Dhoni is among the rare players along with Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli who were not released by their teams in IPL history.

With Sanju Samson expected to join Chennai Super Kings from Rajasthan Royals in a trade deal, MS Dhoni may have more flexibility next season, possibly sharing wicketkeeping duties while continuing to guide the team in the tournament.
