Legendary wicketkeeper-son MS Dhoni has not yet confirmed whether he will play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. During an incident recently, when a fan requested her to participate in the next season, the 44 -year -old jokingly asked who would look after her knee pain.
The IPL is still months away with the 2026 season, speculation continues whether MS Dhoni will return for another season with Chennai Super Kings. The five -time IPL champion had a 2025 poor campaign, which ended at the bottom of the table for the first time. Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020.

MS Dhoni joked about his knee issues when asked about playing another IPL season. Former India captain, who underwent knee surgery after 2023 season, said that he still has time to decide his participation in IPL 2026. Dhoni said that he would probably make the final call by December.

Talking with the host, Dhoni said, “I don’t know if I will play or not. I have time to decide. I have some time till December, so I will take one and two months, and then, finally, I can take my decision.”
Dhoni was maintained by Chennai Super Kings for 4 crores in the ‘Uncapted Player’ category before the 2025 IPL auction. He passed Ruturaj Gaikwad under the captaincy in 2024, but Gikwad was forbidden to hurt last season.

During the incident, a fan urged MS Dhoni to continue playing. The former CSK captain jokingly replied who would take care of his knee pain. His funny reaction attracted laughter from the audience.

Dhoni played through a knee injury during IPL 2023 and directed Chennai Super Kings for the title before undergoing surgery in Mumbai. He delayed treatment until the finals to maximize his recovery time before the 2024 season.

Ruturaj Gikwad was forced to withdraw the midway through the IPL 2025 season due to the fracture of the elbow. MS Dhoni was to take over as captain. However, Chennai had its worst campaign in Super Kings, which ended at the bottom of the table for the first time in the history of the franchise.
Dhoni struggled with the bat, scored only 196 runs at a strike rate of 135.17. He faced criticism to bat at number 8. Super Kings managed to win only four of their 14 matches.
