ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi attended the ICC meeting in Dubai on Friday and BCCI officials were forced to reverse their previous decision as the Asia Cup trophy controversy once again raised the issue.
The Asia Cup trophy controversy gained momentum and is continuing ever since Suryakumar Yadav refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi. He also ruined the winners’ evening by walking out with the trophy.
Since then, the Asia Cup trophy has been kept locked at the ACC headquarters in Dubai, with Naqvi urging the BCCI to send a player to the ACC headquarters to take it off his hands.
Mohsin Naqvi participated in ICC meeting in Dubai
One of the brightest elements of the evening of November 7 in Dubai was the arrival of Mohsin Naqvi at the ICC meeting after staying away from all ICC meetings for a long time. The meeting was held between 4 and 7 November with a 4-day duration.
Mohsin Naqvi was not a part of any day of the week but finally appeared on the last day. His presence boosted the enthusiasm of the Indian officials who were looking for this opportunity to raise the Asia Cup trophy controversy.
The BCCI finally brought to the attention of the ICC that Mohsin Naqvi was abusing his powers as the head of the Asian Cricket Council and had wrongfully deprived India of its rightful title.
BCCI Secretary Devjit Saika took action against ACC Chairman in ICC meeting
Current BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia has taken a stand against the ACC chief as India’s representative at the ICC meeting. It is learned that he has requested the Chairman to send the trophy to India.
It turned out that the discussion was more informal in nature. In fact, the matter came up for discussion when board members were found to be involved in regular conversations among the team.
The ICC has informed that if the issue is not resolved another panel may be formed; However, no such confirmation has been made yet.
Saikia or other BCCI officials could not be immediately contacted, but it was learned that there was a feeling of consensus among the board members.
PCB will dash India’s hopes of hosting T20 World Cup
The Indian board will host the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted with the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, in February 2026. The schedule has not been announced yet by the ICC, but is expected to happen anytime soon.
However, the PCB signed an agreement with the BCCI ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, where they agreed not to participate in any games on each other’s soil. India played its Champions Trophy matches in Dubai, and Pakistan will play its World Cup matches in Sri Lanka.
If Pakistan qualifies for the ICC T20 World Cup knockouts then the final or semi-finals will also be shifted to Sri Lanka.
