The Asia Cup trophy is being kept at the Asian Cricket Council headquarters in Dubai as Mohsin Naqvi has refused to hand it over to the BCCI if he does not travel in person to collect it, which has forced the Indian body to take up the matter with the ICC.

The controversy started with the Indian team refusing to shake hands with Pakistani players after the attack on Pahalgam Valley. After this, many unpleasant gestures were made by the Pakistani players which further strained the relations between the two boards.

The brouhaha didn’t end even after India won the Asia Cup trophy, as they refused to accept it from PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi and instead celebrated with an imaginary trophy, as they were not given their deserved cup.

BCCI has the support of ACB and Sri Lanka Board for handing over the Asia Cup trophy.

The impasse over the Asia Cup trophy is yet to be resolved as ACC President Naqvi remains indifferent and has not agreed to terms with the BCCI. He walked away with the trophy after the Indian team refused to take it from his hands, as he also holds a position in the Interior Ministry of Pakistan.

Since then, he has refused to give it up without an Indian representative taking it over; However, the BCCI has refused to compromise its honour. Now, aided by the Afghanistan Cricket Board as well as the Lankan Board, Naqvi has not changed his mind, despite several fresh requests.

“BCCI Secretary, BCCI’s ACC representative Rajeev Shukla and representatives of other member boards including Sri Lanka Cricket and Afghanistan wrote to the ACC President last week to hand over the trophy to India,” an ACC source told PTI.

ACC’s top source confirms Mohsin Naqvi’s stance on Asia Cup trophy

The BCCI has not only urged Mohsin Naqvi and the ACC on several occasions to come out with new claims but has also threatened to take the matter to the ICC and remove Naqvi from his post in the continental apex body.

Despite all efforts, Naqvi remains steadfast and his stand is strong, claiming that the trophy should be received by the Indian representatives from his office and from his hands only.

“But their response was that someone from BCCI should come to Dubai and take the trophy from them. So the matter has still not progressed. BCCI has made its stand clear that it will not take the trophy from them. So the decision on this matter is likely to be taken in the ICC meeting,” the source said.

BCCI will raise the Asia Cup issue in the ICC meeting next month

After Mohsin Naqvi’s continuous refusal to hand over the trophy, BCCI plans to take the issue to the ICC meeting to be held next month. The ICC is currently headed by former BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has been involved in many controversies, even with the ICC and especially with Jay Shah. A few days ago, a Pakistani federal minister took a direct dig at Jay Shah, claiming biased behavior towards the cricket board.

Following the attacks on the Afghan border area in which three cricketers along with several innocent civilians were killed, Jay Shah is already under increasing pressure from the ACB to take strict action against him and the ICC along with the Pakistan Cricket Board as well as the team.
