Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi may not attend the upcoming ICC Executive Board meeting in Dubai.
According to a PTI report, Naqvi has taken this step to avoid confrontation with the Indian Cricket Board over the Asia Cup trophy dispute.
After winning the final, the Indian team refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi during the presentation ceremony.
The PCB chief did not appoint anyone else to complete the handover and reportedly left the venue with the trophy, which has since been locked inside the ACC headquarters in Dubai.
Mohsin Naqvi did not attend ICC meeting amid Asia Cup trophy controversy
Mohsin Naqvi reportedly rejected BCCI’s multiple requests to formally hand over the trophy, insisting that India would have to take it directly from them.
According to reports, Naqvi had also proposed a presentation ceremony in Dubai, but the BCCI declined, warning that the issue would be raised in the ICC meeting.
Tense talks between the two boards were expected at the four-day ICC meeting that began on Tuesday. However, Naqvi is now likely to skip the event citing domestic political obligations. PCB insiders have not provided details regarding his absence.
In place of Naqvi, PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Syed is set to represent the board at the ICC meeting on November 7, while Naqvi can still participate virtually if required. Naqvi has not attended ICC meetings since Jay Shah became the chairman of the governing body last year.

BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia issues strict warning to Mohsin Naqvi
Earlier on Monday, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia had issued a strict warning to Mohsin Naqvi. Saikia revealed that BCCI had written a letter to ACC about ten days ago requesting to hand over the trophy, but has not received any response yet.
He expressed confidence that the global cricket body will intervene and ensure that India gets the trophy.
“Ten days ago, we had written a letter to the ACC chairperson requesting her to hand over the trophy to the BCCI as soon as possible. However, till date we have not received the trophy. We are waiting for the next day,” he told ANI.
“If we do not get the trophy by November 3, a meeting will be held at the ICC headquarters in Dubai. We will raise our complaint before the apex body of international cricket. I am sure the ICC will do justice and help India get the trophy as soon as possible.”
