Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman and Asian Cricket Council Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has once again attracted attention after the Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy. In a video on social media, Naqvi avoided a question about the trophy during Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed’s wedding reception in Karachi.
Mohsin Naqvi, along with several Pakistan cricketers, attended Abrar Ahmed’s Walima ceremony on Monday. Abrar’s mehendi took place on 4 October. Star players like Shaheen Shah Afridi and Faheem Ashraf were also present, while Abrar shared glimpses of the event on his official Instagram account.

A week after the Asia Cup 2025 final, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman and ACC president Mohsin Naqvi remains at the center of the controversy surrounding the trophy. India defeated Pakistan by five wickets, but the players reportedly refused to accept the trophy and medals from Manvi.
Naqvi reportedly left the stadium with the trophy and medal, leading to criticism. However, later reports suggested that the trophy was handed over to the UAE Cricket Board, although the details are unclear.
In a viral video of Abrar Ahmed’s wedding reception, Naqvi was seen entering the venue while reporters asked him about the status of the trophy. He avoided answering questions and congratulated Abrar and former Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi before leaving in his car.

Mohsin Naqvi sparks controversy by sharing Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘fighter jet’ gesture
Mohsin Naqvi also posted a video of footballer Cristiano Ronaldo making the “fighter jet” gesture. He shared the post just before the final. The gesture was seen as an indirect reference to Pakistan Army’s rejected claims of downing six Indian jets during the recent military standoff.
Naqvi’s post was politically charged and provocative, adding further fuel to the already tense atmosphere surrounding India-Pakistan encounters in the tournament.
Earlier, Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf had made the same gesture during the Super 4 clash against India. Opener Sahibzada Farhan celebrated his half-century in the same match with a gunshot celebration. While the ICC warned Farhan, Rauf was penalized 30% of his match fee for his actions.

Suryakumar Yadav’s India showed complete dominance over Pakistan in the Asia Cup. They defeated the Men in Green in the group stage and Super 4 before sealing the title with a five-wicket win in the final.
Tilak Verma led India’s chase with an innings of 69, helping the team secure their record ninth Asia Cup crown. However, Vijay was met with controversy.
Indian players refused to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts throughout the tournament. Suryakumar also dedicated the team’s victory to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and the Indian Armed Forces.
Pakistan filed a formal complaint with the ICC at the gesture, and Suryakumar was fined for making political comments. The Indian captain donated his entire Asia Cup tournament fee to the families of the victims and also refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi.
