Given his record in previous such meetings and the recent controversy between him and the BCCI over the handing over of the Asia Cup trophy, the PCB chairman’s attendance was largely shrouded in doubt. Naqvi had not attended any ICC meeting, including the annual conference held in Singapore in July.

However, with the arrival of the ACC Chief along with the PCB, his participation in the ICC Board meeting on Friday has been confirmed. There is no doubt that due to his association with the Pakistani government, Naqvi is facing criticism over the unresolved issue of the Asia Cup trophy.

BCCI to escalate Asia Cup controversy on Friday

Since the Asia Cup trophy, BCCI has been continuously requesting Asian Cricket Council Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to send the trophy to the Indian subcontinent. However, Naqvi refused to back down an inch and said that the trophy could only be received by an Indian player sent to the ACC headquarters in Dubai.

BCCI had then informed them that they will take a clear stand in the ICC Board meeting and raise the issue in the meeting, as they have rightfully won the silverware and it is their right to bring it home.

Following the conclusion of the first part of the ICC meeting, BCCI officials took no action on taking the matter to the ICC; However, with the presence of Mohsin Naqvi, a robust deliberation is expected on Friday in which the elite panel will reach a conclusion on the matter.

BCCI announces venues for ICC T20 World Cup 2026

On the other hand, BCCI has made some choices on the selection of possible venues for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The Indian board will host the World Cup along with Sri Lanka and has shortlisted five venues for it.

They have cited Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Ahmedabad as the key cities with World Cup action, and have promised a packet of 5-6 matches in every city. Sri Lanka will also host all its matches and every match of the Pakistan national team.

If Sri Lanka and Pakistan qualify for the knockout games, the knockouts will be held in India. If Pakistan reaches the final, the final of the T20 World Cup will be shifted from India to Sri Lanka. The schedule of the T20 World Cup is to be announced soon by the ICC.
