According to reports, the PCB has decided to impose a fine of PKR 5 million (50 lakh) on each player, holding the team responsible for the poor performance in the tournament.

Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by five runs in their final Group 2 Super 8 match in Pallekele. Thanks to Sahibzada Farhan’s century, Pakistan scored a total of 212-8. They needed to restrict Sri Lanka to 147 or below to reach the semi-finals, but the hosts were bowled out for 207-6, ending Pakistan’s hopes of qualification.

PCB fines Pakistani players Rs 50 lakh each for poor performance in T20 World Cup

According to The Express Tribune, the Pakistan Cricket Board has taken strict action after the team’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup. The board has imposed a fine of PKR 50 lakh on each player.

It is noteworthy that PCB took this decision immediately after Pakistan’s defeat to India. The players were informed about the fine immediately after the match.

Board officials are unhappy with the team’s overall performance in the tournament. He said that players will get financial benefits only through strong performance.

The officials also told the squad that rewards for good results and punishments for bad results would be given simultaneously. The report said the board believes considerable leniency has already been shown.

Pakistan fails to reach semi-finals in T20 World Cup 2026

Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals during the T20 World Cup 2026. This was their fourth consecutive tournament without a last four appearance, after league stage exits in the 2023 ODI World Cup, 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy.

Pakistan’s match against New Zealand in the Super 8 stage was abandoned due to rain. They then lost to England, leaving them relying on other results to remain in the tournament.

Earlier, Pakistan had reached the Super 8 by defeating Namibia, but their overall performance remained inconsistent. They had to struggle against strong sides throughout the competition.

Pakistan escaped defeat against the Netherlands in their opening match and then defeated the United States. However, they failed to perform against India, repeating the mistakes seen in their three Asia Cup defeats.

PCB unhappy with players’ performance in T20 World Cup

Pakistan Cricket Board is unhappy with the performance of T20 World Cup. Players already earn huge sums through central contracts and ICC revenue. Under the current arrangement, players receive a fixed monthly salary along with ICC shares.

A-category players earn Rs 4.5 million per month and Rs 2.07 million from the ICC, although no players were placed in this category for contracts from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026. Players in B, C and D categories earn Rs 750,000 to Rs 3 million per month with additional ICC shares.

Sahibzada Farhan is the highest run scorer in the current World Cup with 383 runs, but senior batsmen including Babar Azam failed to score even 100 runs. Among the bowlers, only Usman Tariq impressed with 10 wickets. Fakhar Zaman showed his usefulness against Sri Lanka by playing an inning of 84 runs at a strike rate of 200.
