Notably, the situation eased only after talks between the ICC and the cricket boards of Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates. Following these talks, Pakistan withdrew its boycott threat and agreed to play the match.
Mohsin Naqvi can talk to ICC Chairman Jay Shah in Colombo
According to PTI, Mohsin Naqvi R. He will travel to Colombo along with senior PCB officials Salman Naseer and Sumair Ahmed for the Group A match at the Premadasa Stadium.
The report said the visit was aimed at reducing tensions with ICC officials, especially after the recent boycott episode. Naqvi is expected to use this opportunity to resume talks with key stakeholders and smooth relations.
“The Sri Lankan board has also invited officials from other boards, but the reason for Naqvi’s visit is to discuss with ICC Chairman, Jay Shah and other officials to resolve the post-boycott dispute,” the source quoted in the report said.
Mohsin Naqvi met Pakistan Prime Minister before Sri Lanka tour
Ahead of his visit to Sri Lanka, Mohsin Naqvi met Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to review the overall cricket situation in the country. The discussion focused on Pakistan’s current position in world cricket and its approach towards the ICC.
The report also said that senior Indian and Bangladesh board officials will be present in Colombo. There is a strong possibility of informal meetings with the ICC President and other top officials during the visit.
“After getting approval from the Prime Minister, Naqvi will be in a position to hold meaningful talks in Colombo,” the quoted source said.
Senior BCCI officials expected to attend India vs Pakistan match
BCCI officials Mithun Manhas, Devjit Saikia and Rajiv Shukla will be present from India. Aminul Islam Bulbul confirmed that the invitation came directly from the ICC. He said the ICC wanted key Asian members to come together for the event.
Aminul said the ICC views the five Asian countries as key stakeholders. The plan is for all five countries to watch the game together and discuss on the sidelines.
Islam had commented, “The ICC has taken a decision. The key stakeholders of the ICC are these five Asian countries and for the India-Pakistan World Cup match on the 15th, they want representatives of all the five Asian countries to be present on the field together, watch the match together and talk to each other.”
