Harshit Rana injury: Mohammed Siraj emerges as frontrunner for replacement
With Rana unlikely to recover in time, Mohammad Siraj Has emerged as a leading candidate to take his place in India’s T20 World Cup squad. Siraj’s experience across all formats and his proven ability in high-pressure international matches makes him a logical choice for the team management.
The selectors are expected to make a formal announcement soon, possibly before India’s next group-stage match. The addition of Siraj will bring depth and experience to India’s pace attack, which is especially important given the tough schedule and conditions during the tournament.
Suryakumar Yadav addressed Rana’s injury
India captain Suryakumar Yadav initially played down the concerns when addressing the media ahead of India’s tournament opener. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, he said that Rana had not been officially ruled out at that time, although the signs were not encouraging.
“Harshit Rana has not been ruled out yet. The doctors are assessing him, but he is not looking good.” Suryakumar said while acknowledging the uncertainty regarding the fast bowler’s availability.
When asked about the possible impact of Rana’s absence, the captain admitted that it would be a blow. However, he stressed that India have enough bench strength to handle the situation and find the best possible replacement among the fast bowlers available.
Rana’s injury became apparent during the warm-up match against South Africa, where the right-arm pacer struggled to complete his run-up.
